Liked that. They're all in a good place together, confident of the work they did, satisfied they gave so many people such enjoyment.

I don’t think everybody got to see how great Charles Grodin was as a person because he acted so combative with Letterman! But, it was all an act and David loved him! He was a great man, sincere and he will be deeply missed!

Wow, people just talking to each other on a late night talk show...not playing ping pong or in karaoke contests. Bizarre.

+steve conn So true. Fallon has dumbed down the Tonight Show. He is personable but cannot rely on intelligence and spontaneity like these guys do. I do not watch late night anymore.

I've seen that "Rifleman" episode here on KZbin. It was crazy seeing him in the cowboy garb.

Grodin is such a subtle dry-humored genius, and he's fun. Love Snyder too. This is back when American culture was still great... Not like these overly political cry babies now.

I think Dave and Johnny and Tom would get tired of the same old talk-show schtick. And they craved someone to come along and challenge them, and keep them on their toes, in an entertaining way. Charles, Albert Brooks, Rickles, and Mel Brooks did it for Johnny. Andy Kaufman, Harvey Pekar and Teri Garr would do it for Dave. But Pekar was the only one who really meant it. But Charles walked right up to that line, and took two or three steps over it, and that's why people were fooled. I'm not totally convinced that Carson and Letterman weren't fooled sometimes too.

Let's not forget Steve Martin. He ALWAYS had something new for Johnny or Dave!

No offense to anyone, but I feel the fact is that Charles Grodin wasn't trying to be funny, that's his Forte, in that sense to me at least, he is so funny through other peoples faults. If you watch the Host he is in constant laughter throughout, not Charles Grodin, just doing what he does best. Please watch Charles Grodin's Last words of Sinatra clip, very moving and sincere. I had the same impression for about 5 minutes; then I grew a sense of humor and realized what Grodin was all about.
