As you’re here - I’m happy to tell you that Grace Norton lived to age 91! She was a noted essayist, & as her specialty was the life of Montaigne we can safely assume that she was witty... I think that she & The Master had known each other for a long time, as both were from the same part of the world & probably were part of a literary elite, on whom some of the characters in Henry James novels might have been based: I’m so happy with Tom Sturridge’s reading of this letter - full of emotion for a friendship that went way back: I’m also grateful that I’m around to hear it... May I recommend the Audible recording of Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Sea Wall/A Life’: a hit stage production, it’s not a duologue, but both readings are ultimately about the dilemma of Belief... Blessed Be! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽

@Malcolm Thomas Jr: THE VOICE - yes! If you’re with Audible, there’s a reading of ‘Sea Wall/A Life’ by Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal: it’s not a duologue, but both stories convey the dilemma of Belief, & both convey almost unbearable emotion... The play was an off-Broadway success, not surprising when two beautiful actors, at the top of their game, are featured here...so maybe you’ll enjoy it,too! Take care & be well! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽

@@thefox1169: If you’re referring to James McAvoy, it’s a (set of?) dramatised readings of ‘The Sandman’, which you can find on Audible, along with lots of other goodies (like ‘Sea Wall/A Life’, with Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal reading the text) Treasured readings include Donna Tartt’s own reading of ‘The Secret History’... 🙏🏽💔🙏🏻

Life is not a problem to be solved. It's a mystery to be lived. James was so ignorant (and yes, I've read him) of what life really is, no wonder he went on and on. This is just rambling rubbish. A novelist is not the same thing as a theologian or philosopher, and it is to them that we should look for helpful thoughts about the meaning of life.
@sjinzaar3 жыл бұрын
I hear what you say, but I disagree. I think the source of this person's (whom I have not read) motivation to write this letter is a place of caring and love. Whether it is ignorance or just stupidity, I don't know or mind, because we can all do with a bit more love. At least he tries. Have a lovely day, Figaro. Be well.
