This is great on so many different levels. I love it when people are able to illustrate the subtleties of the human experience. I mean there's nothing like a night spent in awkward conversation with people in the same state of ambivalence about their interaction... imbibing copious amounts of coffee. That was pretty much the whole business model that Denny's was based on. But then there's the whole cigarette thing... I guess you'd have to have used 'parking meters as walking sticks' and subsequently gotten to a place where you're 'out there saving lives' in order to understand the significance of the statement 'Well now that I've quit I can have them' I could go for another hour about all of the little human-isms that are embedded in this. It's so mediocre that it's excellent! Thanks for this. I gotta get the movie again.. I love the scene with Bill Murray and his serious delirium

It's for the subtle effect of the first conversation about coffee and cigarettes. It's never just coffee and cigarettes, it's a cultural thing and mostly it's coffee and cigarettes for some, it's cigarettes and coffee for others.
