It's almost 5am and I'm up listening to this and crying. I have a huge connection to this song as I have countless friends and family members resort to drugs. And this song just reminds me of the struggle and effort I made for them and they made for themselves. The encouragement I could provide them whether through words or in prayer. Though, I could never capture it truly like this song does. This song will forever be shared by myself and make my message easier as I help those I know get through their addictions and habits. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, self abuse, etc. My light will always be on for them as well as myself as I sometimes struggle with things. Been clean from self abuse for almost 3 years now. No matter what you are going through, help yourself and others. Leave the light on for yourself as well. Because it's easy to lose yourself in the efforts of helping others. ❤ just some 5 am thoughts while listening to this. Ignore my rambles.
@joeblizzard73937 жыл бұрын
Aleisha Satterfield thank you very much for sharing. I like to talk to strangers so I hope you don't mind, you don't have to answer either. I am at a point where all effort is meaningless. The days are getting darker. Hope is a lie. It is like it only exists to let us believe something and suffer because we wanted it so bad to happen but nothing changed. And we don't see light anymore. It gets even darker never thought of such darkness. I mean I can understand them all. People judging others, because they are taking drugs or smth have never been at this point. But how can you still shine for others? How did you get out? Do you have hope?

Hi Joe :) There is hope, there really is, there are people that believe in you, even if you don't believe it yourself right now. I know that there are a lot of judgmental people around, and that, in my opinion, is down to ignorance. You don't have to shine for others - all you have to be is yourself. There might be some things that you you don't like about yourself - that is easy, we all have that which is a bit shit, but part of the human condition for many, I think :/ What is harder sometimes, is to recognise the good things about yourself, whether it is recycling, being kind to animals, sharing candy, growing vegetables, whatever :) I'm so sorry if that sounds kinda preachy, it really wasn't meant to! Positive change is possible and achievable. xxx

I can't write in words how this song motivated and pulled me out from the depths of hell I created and sunk into myself. This one song truly saved me. The lyrics are one of the best I've ever heard and I fell in love with the song at once, it's unreal how deeply it resonates with all of us who battle with addiction, or just a person who is down and trying his or her best fighting to get back up. This song is my redemption, reminding me of the bright future I once dreamed of but forgotten. I can't describe how thankful I am. This song means the world to me.

After losing my baby brother to suicide after years of addiction on Sept 16, 2018 and then independently founding a nonprofit mental health, addiction and suicide prevention outreach honoring his memory, this song - in addition to childhood influences of living in a small town in the Bible-belt of Appalachia and the unspoken generational language the familiar glow of a porch light we all knew growing up and passed down to our own children, were the deepest inspirations behind the foundation's name, THE PORCH LIGHT PROMISE PROJECT. Anyone who's from that area knows that the light of a porch light shining in the distance always meant that it was time to come home when we were small and, as we grew into adulthood, that same familiar sight meant that there was someone at home who loved us that we all knew that felt we mattered enough to cared whether or not we were alive and safe and was waiting up to greet us and had taken the time to turn on that lamplight, hoping that it would help guide each of our paths safely home.

Good Lord... I've know this song for few years now through a Flemish series called "Gevoel voor Tumor". For some reason I wanted to hear it again today and around 2:38 minutes into it, I was suddenly struck by real emotions. There's a certain way in which he's singing "... house upon the hill" there... with such raw power and emotion in his voice, that really struck a cord with me. And the entire part that still follows after that, kept keeping me on the verge of tears. What an awesome singer! Only true talent can convey such real emotions within their audience. Beautiful!

Sometimes your surrounding's are so dark, that you can't see the light or yourself. Listen to the primordial soul that made you feel good and comfortable. That bump in your heart... is what keeps the light on.

I don’t think people truly understand how powerful drug addiction really is. It’s so easy to have never had an addiction to look down on someone with this sickness or tell them to just stop. It’s not as easy as u think to quit something so strong even knowing what it’s doing to u and ur life and to people u love to still remain on it should b enough to show people just how powerful a drug addiction can b. I’ve watched many friends I grew up with suffer through this and lose everything including they’re children and I’m talking about smart intelligent people. It’s not always homeless bad criminal people like the public seems to portray it as. And I believe people truly want out of this disease but they don’t have the money or resources that the more fortunate people with money do that can go to nice expensive clinics that look like resorts and mess up n go to a different one..no most people don’t have those priveledges . I really don’t think they will ever stop the drug addiction killing people everyday until they make places that people with no insurance and no job or money can go to to get help..methadone clinics are great but it’s not a solution to the problem and u have to pay and u end up addicted to a legal drug just as bad as what u were on. The govt needs to wake up and provide places for people that can’t afford treatment centers n nice resort facilities.. until they figure it out people are going to keep dying every day hooked on drugs.. you can only do so much by talking to a person and providing friendly help u can’t watch them and b with them 24 7.. I love this song and I love that he brings attn to the drug addiction epidemic in this world but we need more free places for people to go to.. that’s the only way to help.. it cost more to imprison someone then it would to provide treatment care for them.. sad..

I have also lost too many friends to drugs, and now I too am searching for a darker place to hide. My only worry is that I've run out of people to leave a light on for me.

My son and his gf are expecting their first child in Jan. Back in April we had a falling out and they left. I leave a light on every single night. They stop by often and we're ok now. I also leave a light on for my sister who has been an addict for 20 yrs. My house really is on a hill too ❤️❤️❤️it's a shelter for those who need it and they know it. Always has been always will be. Safe haven

Fiancé broke up with me 3 years ago yesterday. I told her I’d always leave the light on, but that light is slowly fading… I’ll always love her, and I’ll keep that light on as long as it takes

Although this song is about drug addiction, I think it speaks to me more about Jesus. He will never leave us even when we turn to sin over and over he will leave the light on

I couldn’t finish listening yet. You’ve written a beautiful song that speaks directly to too many of us. Leave the light on. We’ll try to save as many as we can.

@Tom Walker I've been listening to you since leave a light on came out. That song absolutely blows my mind. I've lost a few good friend and even my husband on drugs in 2017.. The same year my father died, because of years of alcoholism and a very unhealthy lifestyle. I've never had a chance to say goodbye to them 😢 couse I'm afraid. It's eating me up

What a truly amazing, uplifting and inspirational song. It is not very often that such tragedy and lives lost and buried in the scourge that is drug abuse and addiction come up to do battle against a message of such profound hope and love and comfort. Thank you Tom Walker for YOUR BRIGHT LIGHT in an often rough and raging sea that delivers nothing but darkness, deprivation, suffering and loss. You offer hope and inspiration for a better day to so many people who will hear this song and seek healing and redemption. You are a good soul indeed Sir.
