My cousin has been working at the Dakota since the 70’s. He’s the doorman. Knew John and knows Yoko. She gives him a huge bonus for Christmas and he said when John Lennon passed- the whole staff was in utter shock. They didn’t know what to do.

FYI, Tom. Lennon was 40 when he was killed, not 42. I also attended that December 14, 1980 celebration of his life. It was moving beyond words. It is so strange to stand amongst 100,000 and be able to hear a pin drop.

Wow..I can only imagine how that heavy that silence felt, so thick with emotions. He made such an impact on so many people that 2this day on most weekends there are still musicians who kinda like show up in shifts to sing his songs at Strawberry Fields. I think after Times Square its one of the most photographed places in Nyc. So sad.

Hi Tom great video (other than the singing!) Re the John Lennon murder the rumour I heard was that the second 'target' was David Bowie who was appearing in the Elephant Man at the Booth theatre at the time. I believe John and Yoko had tickets to see him on the 10th, as did Chapman. Bowie never appeared on stage in this format again as he was so shocked by his friends murder although, of course, he did continue playing gigs in arena type venues.

I have to correct you.. John Lennon was 40yrs old. He turned 40 October 9th born in 1940. That was one of those times in history that you remember exactly what you were doing and where you were. Strawberry Fields is a wonderful place to visit. I did learn alot. The only thongs I had knowledge of was Sid Vicious and John Lennon. I believe Andy Warhol was most famous for his artwork and being a socialite. But he did hangout with the most famous rock stars who bought his artwork worth alot of money now. His work is extremely recognizable. Another great tour..Thank you🌟

Like the rest of the commenter's I enjoy your tours and hilarious persona. Since you brought up Andy Wharhol his famous muse Edie Sedgwick , lived at the Chelsea and set fire to her room. Not really a crime except she accidentally set fires frequently while smoking and being under the influence. Supposedly had an affair with Bob Dylan whilst they both lived at the Chelsea. Apparently the staff was happy when she left. So beautiful was she and tragically she died at 28 of an over dose. A family lineage dating back to the 17th century in this country with money and madness that ultimately doomed the iconic 60's beauty.

I just learn that she is a descendant of Robert Gould Shaw ( he was played by Mathew Broderick in the movie Glory ) her linage is very interesting and full of prominent people, including a founding father. It’s very sad that she died that way.

Andy Warhol was actually a really good, quite visionary painter and a brazen conceptual artist... some of his early stuff is pioneering in its utter confidence in new, sexual and fresh observances of commonplace and even anatomical objects. His movies helped bring in a new awareness of art/existence itself.

As t Andy Warhol, to me, the technique in image silk screen and dye transfer applications into "fine arts". Andy was a master of Public Relations to. I worked for Interview Magazine, as a stringer, here in Los Angeles. Andy got his start in the La Cienega arts gallery days with the soup cans. As to Mark David Chapman, I always found it curious he was a friend of GHW Bush's son Marvin. Marvin and Neal were heads of Security at World Trade Center on 9}11. I digress. MDC was supposed to have dinner a week after the shooting, at GHW Bush's D.C. home. Huh.
