I was skating 8.5's for a long time and just for giggles I ended up picking up your 8" slick vx deck and I love it. I went from hockey-style nose shapes to the taper so it was kinda crazy at first but I think I'm sold on the 8 to 8-1/8 width. The biggest thing I noticed was the wheel base and the length. Your board helped me realize I've been skating way too long of wheelbase for years. Its funny we're sort of on the opposite journey with boards haha

This video is the reason i skate egg shapes. Ive always loved the early 90s skating, but up from 2000 until about 4 years ago i only skated standard popsicle shapes. I love the eggs because they are super wide but retain a short wheel base . Mine is a 9.0 inch but since it tapers at the wheels , where you flick is about 8.75 , the width making it easy to catch and the shape making it easier to flip, all with a short wheelbase is heaven. Sorry , stoned rant

It's so mind blowing how some people switching trucks won't affect them at all. I mean they handle the transition to different trucks/boards pretty quickly. 7/8 to 1 inch bolts even bother me so much. LOL Its just awesome to see videos like this how Tom shows us that it is normal. Love the up in the setup! I've been skating theexact same setup (except the board) but it's still a twin tail though.

@@markbryanpo funny enough after 25+ years of skating I barely learned about wheel base from a homie. Really the only thing I get picky about is the deck and grip. Love some super steep concave with the grippiest grip possible. Everything else is minor in my mind. Just as long as the decks right.

It’s cool seeing you size up the deck and board because I have been questioning it myself. I’m 5’6 with a size 8 shoe, so I think we have a very similar build. I typically skate the same setup as you: 8 inch board,31.5 in length typically, and a thunder 147. Seeing you skate the new setup and hearing that you’ve adjusted fast gives me hope that I could make it work too. I appreciate hearing your thoughts and watching you skate it.
@demon_3x10 ай бұрын
8.25 is goated, I can finally get one of your boards, I been wanting to try a twin for a minute. Fun fact: Reynolds skated 8” trucks on an 8.25 board for years, because independent didn’t come out with their 8.25 equivalent (144mm) until a handful of years back. They jumped from 8-8.5 up until then! He always had a 8.5 setup as well for certain things.
@soundsbitter10 ай бұрын
Yeah skated 147 thunder raws with the green clear bushings on an 8.25 for a while growing up. Now I gotta have 8.25s on a 8.25 deck. But sometimes I would use 8.3 width deck with 8.25 trucks. I kinda like my decks a tiny bit wider than my trucks .
@demon_3x10 ай бұрын
@@soundsbitter yeah I always rode Indy’s myself so before 144mm from them, I always had 139 on a 8.25 board because that was the norm if you rode Indy’s, you either went bigger or smaller than the deck in those times. Now they have 144mms I can’t do anything different than the same size as the deck lol
@FrackaLackaАй бұрын
@@demon_3xyou should try the 144s on an 8.375-8.4 size board and put 3 axle washers on the inside of the wheels (hanger side) and if you need to, throw a bit of superglue on the nuts to keep them there, keeps them from falling off but you can still easily remove the nuts when you need to and keeps them flush with the axle, then it spaces your wheels to sit more like a 149 would while still having the trucks narrower than the board which really helps flip tricks

Best trucks on the market. I did the same thing in upsizing a couple yrs ago. .25 deck first with 8 trucks then eventually synced the trucks. Got the Suciu ultra lights. But man best decision ever with that wide glide ass feeling I love it. Now I'm up to 8.38 with the .25 trucks and figure I'm home now cause 8.5 id want to snyc again and 8.5 trucks just seems huge. It took some self realization and some convincing that I'm not the most tech flip tricky guy anyway and didn't need 8 after I'd grown up on 7.6s and 7.75s .
