I’ve got Black Sea Man and Indigo’s on my seed buying list because of you! We tried Spoon tomatoes this year, and ours were packed with flavor-but we probably won’t grow them again, just because they’re so small. It’s funny to hear that you grew up not liking tomatoes-same with me! You’re so right-until you taste home grown, interesting varieties you haven’t experienced tomatoes. Love these videos! Thanks for sharing your insights and giving inspiration for next year’s garden.

I would say our favorite sweet tomato is Kellogg’s Breakfast-really great on a sandwich. And it’s hard to beat Cherokee Purple on the savory side-it’s the standard by which we measure all the dark varieties. Every year we try ten or so varieties, and we usually find one or two to add to the “must grow every year” list…
@bloomandwiltgardens8 ай бұрын
Those are both excellent! Kellogg’s breakfast is so sweet and actually very good as a breakfast tomato. My must grow list keeps getting longer and I tell myself I have to grow less the next year but then don’t because I want to have all the flavors. Haha 😅

Another NEO gardener here. It’s inspirational to see you pull that many fine fruits from this region. My personal favorite is Paul Robeson. I like the Cherokee Purple as well but the yields just aren’t there for me. I’m definitely making room now for the Black Trifle.

We have a lot of opportunity in our region to try all kinds of things! I think it's fun to see what is possible. Thanks for sharing your favorites!!
@jamesreid863828 күн бұрын
Two excellent heirloom varieties which may grow, well in your region are "purple calabash," which is possibly the ugliest, but one of the best-tasting vaieties i know. Another awesome variety is called "West Virginia Hillbilly," and is very productive in Zone 6, and somewhat resistant to some fungi. Black Krim and Brandywine are awesome, too. The, Brandywines have a great internal texture, and are great either raw or preserved, with far fewr seeds than most larger varieties
@jayduplessis769828 күн бұрын
Absolutely... Brandywine has the most perfect texture. I can never get enough of it!

You should definitely try Tim’s Taste of Paradise from Wild Boar Farms. I was so surprised by it, it is sweet and has such a deep flavor and complex flavor. For a small cherry size to have that much flavor it was amazing. It would be stunning on a pizza. Highly recommend. One of his newer release so not much reviews yet

First thing I have to say is this was a great mom and sons interaction. My wife and I live in Ohio and we are going to grow just under 20 varieties. Just for fun and to be honest I’m not a big tomato person but they are growing on me. At least early I the season when they first come on.
@bloomandwiltgardens5 ай бұрын
Thank you! It always fun when the boys want to participate. You may find a variety you just love that surprises you! With so many flavors out there I think most can find one they like. What has been the type you’ve grown to like the most?

I’ll be sending you some seeds (from just another random person on TikTok) tomorrow. I’ve had them in my car all week just haven’t had the time to make it over to the post office. 💚

I love growing tomatoes but never liked them raw. I have slowly gotten myself to eat them thinly sliced on a sandwich or chopped in a salad but that’s it so far. I want to eat them but the taste I can’t get over. And l am over sixty! LOL

Progress is progress at any age! Do you grow any unique varieties of tomatoes? Is there anything you saw that you’re thinking about trying?
@budmackes7927 ай бұрын
I grow a variety of heirlooms like pink brandywine, Cherokee purple, mortgage lifter, Arkansas traveler among others. I also grow some hybrids such as big beef, beef master and sungold. I am going to try isis candy. I also grow San marzano and Cippolo’s pride for processing and want to add the Jersey Devil. I like the Brandywine the most but can’t eat them like you, LOL!

Know last year our favorite Midnight Snack wasn't yours, but it is true that impress is how we also judge by. If we have only one tomato it will be Black Krim Not far tasting canning versus snacking tomatoes and slicers not on. Hamburger or Steak burgers 😅 it's to many tomatoes to be judged in our favorite dishes. Try Terracotta in Mexico type dishes

Hello from Columbus ohio Because they don't always are on their pick of ripeness it's difficult to judge. Black Brandywine is my favorite on a beef steak or beef burger. But I'm like you Black tomatoes are our favorite but for that Black Beauty was disappointing for us really on the bottom choice.
