If it's something to do with your uniform, you are usually allowed to deficiencies that can be fixed by your change Commander like something being crooked, anything more than that, or a dirty weapon and you get sent back

This is not uncommon and I have seen it a few times, the sentinel is expected to have perfect appearance so the inspection is not just for show.

i was there last week with Honor flight.. and one of the guards slightly stumbled on his words.. what happens? i'm sure he is beating himself up about it.. BUT one of the vets we traveled with is a former guard and when asked what happens his response was "i wouldn't want to be him tonight" so leads one to ask what "opportunity for improvement" will he recieve?

These guys are absolute machines. It literally goes as far as if there is even single thread out of place they are sent back in to fix it. Buttons have to be shined and facing the same direction, medals have to be equal distance apart. It's truly incredible the level of detail they go to

Return to the Quarters and very quickly come back out with the issue resolved. If for some reason the issue cannot be resolved, another Guard will be sent back up. You do three-minute dress drills as part of training, so someone could be dressed, bloused and out the door in five minutes.

There is no inspection before going out the door. You get bloused and taped off (usually by a new man).

@@aquilifergroup No...that is a ridiculous internet myth. The only inspection in the Quarters is by the Relief Commander at the beginning of the shift. Before a walk, someone (usually a new man) blouses and then tapes you off.

I've been to Arlington 3 times and have watched this every time. What they did here is what they did the last time I went, a silent and commandless ceremony. When they came to "pass on your orders", they lipped it. That part looked silly. I have no idea why they started doing it this way.

Американцы из всего делают шоу. При этом полностью искажают суть действия. У почётного караула одна задача - церемониальное присутствие военного, имитирующего охрану памятника. Настоящую охрану порядка осуществляет полиция, которая имеет настоящее оружие и свободу действий. Проверку должна проводиться до выполнения поставленной задачи, а не во время её выполнения. Это всё равно, что во время свадьбы священник полез под юбку невесте для поверки наличия подвязки или цвета её туфель и белья. Не церемония, а клоунада. Но это и хорошо. Пусть у врагов будет искажённое представление о сути вещей - они так сами себя подвергают деградации

The M14, which superseded the M1 Garand in 1957, is the standard ceremonial weapon used by the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) today, and is the current weapon carried by Tomb Guards. They are fully functional.

think its all about discipline. Movements so drilled that they gotta be snappy and precise. Yes at first clance it looks silly, but then you realise it, in itself, is a show of how many goddamn times they did this and how long they trained to do even the most minute gesture perfectly, with every single step of the ceremony long planned in advance down to head movement.
