This is the only tomb raider I ever had a hard time with. All the others were much less confusingly laid out (generally)

They had paperback strategy guides back in the day. Or they got tips from G4… or magazines. Lol 😂 but all of those things are irrelevant since the internet took off in the late 2000s. Pretty much by 2015 paperback book guides are almost gone. RIP PRIMA

A strategy guide was pretty much a necessity for this game, which was a common criticism leveled at it. Still, even with a strategy guide, I was horrible at this game 😂

Yeah we needed tons of help back then to beat most games. There was a whole industry around walk through guides, cheats, tricks, etc for games back then. Just because the Internet wasn't widespread yet, doesn't mean we all just beat games on our own.

Well when your a kid, you got all the time in the world and these are the best games at the time, and you might have an older sibling or your dad play with you, and guides. I barely have time to watch youtube now.

I fell into the piranha infested water towards the end 🤦🏻‍♀️ Is there any way I can backtrack now as the first spike room door towards the zipline is now locked off…. feels like a fate worse than death 😫

Gosh they were relentless for having this as an opening level, especially with the locations of some of these secrets. After playing through 1 and 2, I considered myself more or less adept at figuring out where to explore to find secrets, but hiding the first one in a tiny hidden block on a slope surrounded by foilage in the very first section of the game is insane. I don't know whether to be angry or impressed that the devs did that.

They put one of the prettiest levels at the beginning of the game and mid game you had go through grey research facilities and London underground stations.

In my opinion, steps taken at 15:06 (pulling the block) and 15:31 (pulling the lever behind the door that the block opened) are not necessary due to the fact that the temple was entered from underwater. The door that the lever at 15:31 opened is never used. There is actually a way to enter the temple from where you leave it at 16:07. Then it becomes necessary to pull the block and the lever to access the first room (where you actually enter at 14:22). You need to get there to use one of the levers that opens the room with the lever for water control. To actually enter the temple the other way, there is a secret lever at the top of the platform you can see in 14:07 (above the little island). This whole area always bugged me as a kid and I was never able to figure it. Had to come back for it! :D

Thanks for this confirmation. I am playing through the Remaster now and was hung up on this step last night. I thought since I got the key that I should be able to go to the end and finish the level, but I kept going back into that room looking for an underwater switch or something to open the other two gates underwater.

9:55 you can actually make the jump instead of shimming! Also when you get to the other side you can jump on top of the elevated chunk area instead of shimming to the crystal as well 😄

One thing I never figured out even 23 years after i first played this is what the hell are you supposed to do if you get near the end of the level after the cistern and fall in to the piranna lake and are sent back to the start of the level?! Short of cheating or taking advantage of some bug that is by just taking the quicksand short cut! The gate to get back to the water world as you leave the other river without the phirannas is LOCKED once you have gone through it once. How do you unlock it again?!

I had the same problem! Thankfully I used an early save in the game and went back to before when the 3 rocks fall. Or else I think you have to actually redo it

wow that's great news about the same time as Bromham Rd being shut up and down the road to the office 6 trays for the first time in the west henry fonda shoot a few days ago and I have to try again in the morning and they were briefly relegated when they were getting pushed back in the day I always used to take the next day off and on the way home if you want to have a go any meenie miney mo catch a break from the book of life and prosperity in good condition and I will never be the same next week and the week after next week
