"The CG looks a bit naff on purpose to replicate the video game" is one of the stranger things Mark has ever said
@ALocalClown6 жыл бұрын
Art vandaley maybe the budget wasn't big enough. Maybe the resources were allocated elsewhere. Maybe the production time wasn't long enough. Maybe they hired a bad studio. There's a plethora of reasons for bag cgi do people seriously think it's intentional? Sounds delusional to me.

I can imagine Mark will have a lot to say about it and it's distribution decisions. He devoted a couple of 'Uncut's to Mute so I'd be surprised if he didn't talk about it.

I was surprised when i saw it on Netflix. Then i watched it and i wasn't surprised it had been dumped on Netflix. It isn't very good and Paramount Pictures seem to be off-loading their badly audience received movies on sites like Netflix

Was really unimpressed with Annihilation. The characters and the setting didn't feel fleshed out at all. Couple of decent scenes, that was about it really...

I can see what Alicia Vikander and Angelina Jolie are talking about. I can remember, when I was little, I would watch my brother play the original video games and think how cool Lara Croft was, even though I also had the sense that the games weren't 'for' me. It may not be a great film but it's nice to think that the younger female audience might get something good from it.
@firefly4f46 жыл бұрын
I liked Vikander in the role far more than Jolie, but I honestly found the movie itself rather mediocre and uneven. There are parts of it that are quite good, but personally there was a bit of tonal dissonance between the fun action scenes are her dealing with the injuries thereof. Yes, if those action scenes happened, they WOULD hurt, but it kinda kills the mood. There was also a bit too much narration for my tastes -- in particular that bit at the beginning which is then repeated later on. It's not bad, it's entirely watchable, but I will say this: it's the best video game movie I've seen in quite a while. I think it just needed a bit more tweaking. I'll say again, though: Vikander makes this better than the script actually is. She's really good even if the movie is "meh".
@julienperonne23474 жыл бұрын
I think you summed that up pretty well... I would not be against a sequel with a better director a more tighter screenplay. It could be its Blade II
@Amber_xo_133 Жыл бұрын
Alicia Vikander was a fan of the video game series growing up. Alicia Vikander put on a lot of muscle to play Lara, as she wanted the character to be as realistic as possible and also did some of her own stunts. Currently the highest rated video game adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes. At the end of the movie, it is revealed that "The Order of Trinity" is based in Sweden. Director Roar Uthaug is Norwegian, and Alicia Vikander is Swedish.

Why do they keep rehashing unoriginal video games like Hitman & Tomb Raider? There are some great story driven games out there The Last of Us, Bioshock Series, The Witcher etc etc problem is they don't get the love, care and the proper financial backing they deserve to be adapted onto the big screen.
@TulilaSalome6 жыл бұрын
Cheaper to film stuff in the 'real' world? Though Bioshock takes place in close quarters, so making it in the studio stage would probably not be punitively hard... Witcher by the way is based on a book, so if it was made to a film, would it count as a video game movie at all?

@MultipleTangos6 жыл бұрын
I would agree that the film isn't in the same league as Indiana Jones - however, its draws straight from the structure of Last Crusade and this is where the film actually starts to work. You've got all the stereotypes of villians capture important info the hero should have destroyed, hero goes in search of missing father, villians capture them, led into tomb where all henchmen are killed via trials etc etc. The streotypes are very brash but the film executes them well through the acting and an engaging plot.

Poor CGI really hobbled the first two TR movies, the second one in particular...but they were fun movies, and Angelina is a bad-ass in them. Wasn't looking forward to this, but the more I see of Vikander in the role, I'm intrigued

I just felt that everything in the film was something I'd seen before. None of it was done badly but none of it was new. This definitely a film for young people who haven't seen a lot of films yet. They'll love it. But I came out thinking that I had watched a rerelease.
@saxbend6 жыл бұрын
I've heard the criticism of video games being the equivalent of watching someone else playing a few times. However youtube let's plays are hugely popular. So I don't think this is a built in flaw. Perhaps a very witty writer - e.g. Shane Black or Joss Whedon could write a video game adaptation where the main character has the perspective of a player and comments on the game world as the player would. Make the film a let's play adaptation rather than a direct adaptation of the game.

This was one of those rare (thank god) movies where, 5 minutes after seeing it, I could barely remember anything about it. Seeing it was like experiencing one of those fabled UFO "lost time" things. It's competently made and acted but there is literally nothing about it that is the least little bit memorable. It should have been called Meh/Shrug: The Movie.

@lwaves6 жыл бұрын
Not really. They may be the majority, I don't know and don't know if there is any way to tell for certain, but it's definitely not the 'vast' majority. Lara has always been a great icon for female gamers and cosplayers. For a long while she was basically the only lead female character in action games. She has a substantial female fanbase.

Get Out was no better than any other thriller I watch that year in fact I enjoyed Mother and Ritual more than Get Out and plus I saw the twist coming from a mile away.
