Great interview, as usual. What I really appreciate is that Tom asks the right questions. He doesn't allow his guests to be shallow or vague in their responses. There's always lots of value. It's uncanny, because sometimes I find him asking the exact question I have in my head and wishing he would ask. Great job Tom and team Impact!

I’m wildly passionate about health and nutrition and think It’s SO FASCINATING how my personal view of nutrition have evolved over the years to match this guys. I’m 23 and have been on a journey since 19 to figure out the cause of my debilitating mental problems which includes severe depression and delusional psychosis. I started with what I knew from the fitness community 4 years ago then moved to learning about the my thyroid/liver (which the internet told me could be the reason for my issues) then to the brain specifically to then learning the whole nervous system (parasympathetic vs sympathetic, stress, etc ) to now the gut microbiome and flora dysbiosis. I’m on a gut regimen now prescribed from a functional chiropractor and I am baffled that it’s actually working. I’m 100% open to knowing something else may be influencing the gut (that’s yet to be discovered) but my oh my has it been a long evolution that I’m grateful to have embarked on. Very informed and well-educated speaker! 🍏🧠❤️

Hey Tom, kudos on the relentless push for cutting edge content; nuanced and complex, focusing on the need to inquire deeply and individualize one's search for optimum health. Functional medicine's strength is in examining each individual's entire ecosystem (body, mind, environment, spirit) and inviting their participation in crafting the solution(s). I love that you're highlighting this approach and look forward to more!

Great interview. Having gone down this route, I too have come around to the idea that we overvalue diet relative to lifestyle changes. I have severe chronic sinusitis and tried everything from dairy-free keto to paleo to AIP and got little, even walking 10k outside. Then I went to easier keto (with dairy) and serious strength training (and sauna use)for the first time and after 3 weeks I'm breathing better through my nose than I have in years.

Story of my life!! I couldn’t believe no one addressed it and I had to figure it out on my own after trying out one thing to another, stressing to follow the rules on point..just making every healthy practise become stressful on my body. It’s true it can work like that! Like the time I decided to cut sugar all at once and stick with the decision, I felt terrible and completely lost. And then jumping to another next best thing and another and another.. I was confused why I wasn’t getting the results I wanted!! Once I decided to let it go especially of trying to perfect everything, I started to feel better. And I can confidently say that I’m on the right path. It wouldn’t make sense to people around me, but it’s making alot of sense to me. I hope more people hear this. Thank you again for another revelational episode.

That is so true what you said. I spent so many years of my life trying so hard to do what Others said would make me healthy, and live longer. So many diets, so many ways of eating, so many supplements, so many books. :( And all it did was make me stressed out and unhappy deep down. Never happy with myself. Feeling like I was doing things wrong. The day I gave it all up...stopped putting so much emphasis on food, and just eat mindfully what I want, ...I eat with pleasure, all foods, and I am so happy. No more stress, no more worry, and I do have my cake. But I also enjoy lots of foods that are better for energy etc. Variety. No more diets. :) and that reduces stress and fatigue!

It's actually the Gut-Microbiome-Brain Axis - it includes all the non-human organisms located throughout the body such as the mitochondria, bacterial strands, and many other cells. You are not you - you are the sum total of this collective consciousness that emerges from the interacions between those bacterial life forms that all get connected up in the brain via the vagus nerve.
@Rally99k6 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what a mitochondrion is, do you? Bacteria are living things, made of cells, one to be specific. Mitochondria are parts of cells, like an organ, called an organelle. A mitochondrion is the name of a bacteria's organ. What you listed is like talking about the collaborative effort between a group of people and some of their kidneys. Keep on spreadin that Grade A knowledge.

Long story short, I was told I had ibs and to stay away from gluten. Now they say it's endometriosis and lactose intolerance. The treatment is not working because I am still throwing up every month cyclically no matter what i eat. I have really started to pay attention to my diet/exercise/sleep patterns. I feel better because of the improvements I have made including lactaid intake but I am still sick. I am losing faith in doctors and have begun to research gut issues myself. This video was extremely eye opening and helpful.

This episode changed my life by introducing me to Dr. Ruscio. I experienced several close deaths in a row which led me into grief-depression along with poor diet and sleep. After 3 years of this my health started to crash. I went on a campaign to fix my health by joining a support group and doing a keto/anti-inflammatory diet. I lost 50 pounds, got rid of the constant mucus in my throat and my joint pain, and was taken off 2 of the 3 (so far) blood pressure meds I take. I felt better, but still had osteoporosis, brain fog, hair loss, and chronic diarrhea. I believe all the stress damaged my gut, which caused these conditions. Most conventional doctors say everything is fine, or here's another dangerous pill. When I saw this video the first time, I was riveted, and ordered "Healthy Gut Healthy You." It is such a thoroughly researched and comprehensive book, it took me a while to get through it, but I can't say enough wonderful things about this book and Dr. Ruscio as a compassionate functional healer. He has a step-by-step protocol with built-in individualization. He addresses every scenario. Whenever I feel I have hit a wall or have a question, I reread certain parts, and there he is, telling me what is going on and what to do next. The products he recommends are available on his website, so there is no question whether they are okay. I still have a ways to go before I am 100%, but it feels awesome to have my first normal bowel movement in 15 months. This was after laying the groundwork with diet and lifestyle changes, then 4 weeks on the probiotic protocol. I love Dr. Ruscio's philosophy and approach, and I am taking his program to heart. I am enjoying my walks in nature and getting better sleep, and look forward to the rest of my life. Thank you, Dr. Ruscio and Tom Bilyeu!!

Melissa - absolutely agreed with you there. We got some of the most stupid doctor around TODAY who don't have a F***** clue. Real life example: My father just came down with SEVERE right leg pain out of the blue. It got to the point where he's not able to sit or stand properly and have to lay in bed 24/7 due to constant pain. His primary physician (a woman) gave him a course of pain medicine and sent him home and said to check in again with her in 3 months to see how he doing. Well, he's till in severe pain everyday so he came back to her within a month and she gave him more powerful pain medications and referred him to a physical therapy. And guess this....this doctor didn't even do an xray or MRI on my dad! So my dad force himself to go to his physical therapy twice week and after 3 weeks it has not helped. I got frustrated and asked my dad if I can look at his labs and see what's wrong. First thing that pop up. My dad kidneys are in bad shape. His creatinine clearance is 30 for the pass YEAR! ONe Year! Can you believe it! not months....it has been A YEAR. At his age his normal creatinine clearance should be greater than 65. 30 is in the kidney failure category. According to literature, if you're at this stage for more than 3 months than you are in BAD shape. I look back at his doctor recent note and she wrote "kidney lab is WORRISOME, suggest to see nephrologist"...I asked my dad if she had told him this. He said "no". So she just wrote it in her note and just sent him home with pain meds without saying anything. Now I understand why he had the leg pain. A simple search on the internet will tell any fool that when the kidney is shutting down it will cause SEVERE pain, kind of like giving birth pain, and will sometimes even radiated to the patient's legs. Well, this is what exactly what my dad is experience RIGHT NOW. And this idiotic doctor of his even give him pain medications that could worsen his kidneys. We made an appointment with a Nephrologist right away but unfortunately he won't have any opening until the end of this months. So my dad wasted a year due to the so call doctor! Now Melissa, tell me this. If this doctor cannot figured this simple problem, how is she would know anything about the complicated gut health! Please, I pray that all of us can wake up and see that these doctors are not curing "dis-ease"...all they are doing is managing symptoms...I wouldn't even call it disease...because it's reversible but in their mind...and they have been brainwash to think that these symptoms ARE NOT reversible. Only can be MANAGED with drugs!

I'm concerned about this review on Amazon for his book: "Be very careful with this guy. For a start he is NOT a doctor - officially he's a chiropractor - but I found all that out later - let me walk you through my story. I was all very positive about this book until I went to the web-site to get the support materials - there's a number of links he offers for various parts of the book. One is on the fast for example - and there you can see the details of what you have to do. Which is where things started to go slightly belly-up as in the book he says do it for 2-3 weeks - but the support material tells you hell and high damnation will land on your head unless you do it absolutely strictly for 30 days. But that was not so bad and I continued on. But then another support material was a link to a 'diet' book - which you can download a free sample - which I did and that all looked fine and then I went to Amazon to see about getting the full book - on kindle - and that's where things got interesting. As I was looking through the reviews I noticed quite a few one and two stars - with many people severely criticising the formatting of the kindle book - that some details/pages were completely missing - etc - and also their frustration that there seemed no way to let Michael know of this problem with the kindle book. Well...... I found out that he is on Twitter - so I contacted him on twitter and said hey Michael there's a problem with the kindle version of your diet book from the support materials you quote on your website. The response I ended up getting - after a few Tweets I must say that it took to get him to see what I was saying - was..... I didn't write that diet book take it up with whoever did. Huh? What? Its listed on HIS site under HIS support materials for HIS book - and that was the response? I said this to him - that I was totally gob-smacked by his response to my what I thought was helpful feedback - and what I got was: Silence. Nothing. No response. Intrigued I went looking around on the web to see if anybody else was complaining about this guy. That's when I found out he's not an actual doctor and there are a number of very negative reviews on 'Yelp' in the US from people who have actually been to his clinic in Las Vagas. Shame because I was hopeful. I still think some of what he says has merit - but I would be very cautious before shelling out too much money on this guy or thinking that he has as many answers as I think he thinks he has."
@spiralflash61694 жыл бұрын
He doesn't go into detail about the different diets you can try because you can find that info anywhere. He is not a stickler about any particular diet, just whatever seems to work for you. When pressed, he recommends starting with Paleo (which is known as Whole 30 when doing a one month trial) and go from there. He provides a link to Whole 30 to see the kinds of foods on Paleo, thus the confusion.

Very good information, I recommend cranial sacral therapy, it has helped heal my nervous system and helped me to breath properly which is a massive part of healing x

Tom do you think going to an university is worth it if you're a high potential, or is it better to learn the things you want to by yourself without getting it accreditet?

Super interesting episode! :) (i got the book just now!) i love the progress bar on the bottom, really handy for when looking back, wich i always do, but... its so big and non transparent that it distracts me alot in terms of the depth and ease of view, if its smaller or maybe semi transparent it will be more easier for my eyes :) I'm really curious if only i experience this or also other viewers?
