I've tried a lot of different brands for sketch pencils in the past, and I would have to say Tombow is definitely my favorite to use.

Thanks for sharing this review. I am looking at various pencil types and I wanted a set that didn't shine too much when shading and your review seems to indicate that the Tombow mono's are the way to go and are superior for my needs to the other popular variety. It was surprising to see how dark the hardest pencil was, I was expecting a far lighter tone. All in all a great review, informative, and helpful. Thumb up and subbed.

With any graphite type pencil, you always risk shine if you press too hard. It's difficult to remove all shine, however. The carbon/graphite blend pencils such as those from General's 9xxb and Staedtler Mars Lumograph offer a no-shine dark pencil but you trade-off some blending/erasing capabilities. A light hand and perhaps spraying with fixative when done is how I dampen down shine to some degree. Thanks for the like and subscribing!

That's a shame. The Tombow Mono's are very high quality pencils, similar to the Mitsubishi Hi-Uni also from Japan.

you should try Prigresso woodless graphite pencil. they are excellent. heavy weight, nice smooth texture. never get any little nicks on your shading and because they are woodless, they sharpen to a great point and last FOREVER. only thing is, they only come in B range and don't come in variety packs. as in a 12 pack of 2Bs..... great pencil though. check them out. they also do woodless color pencil

I have these already in my "to-do" bucket. A box of 12 Koh-I-Noor Woodless Graphite Pencils. They are made in Czech Republic. So I'll get to these soon as there are several items still in the bucket to get to. Thanks.

Studio graphite pencils come from China. they come in a small case Rix. of Six pencils of 3B.2B.B, HB, H,2H. they come here from Dollar Rama in Quebec. You mention A Dollar Store place where you can find things. these cost me 2dollars here. if you can do to the dollar store see if you can find studio pencils. I get a lot of info from you and I like what you do and enjoy listening what you say.

I've not bought any pencils in quite some time. Life catches up with you. I'll be doing another drawing video soon. We all need to care for our families, and so I must make a living. That takes up time. :)

Any real artist knows that koh I noor pencils suck ass. They are no where close to the Tombow mono pencils.
