RixCanDoit Thank you...your the only artist that goes in depth about techniques used and tools..most do time lapse and the viewer can't mimic techniques that way..I notice u don't have faint grid paper or a drawn grid behind the piece. Is this necessarily needed for hyper realism art
@Awol2020Latimore17 жыл бұрын
Genius...it is an overhead projector sheet..why has no one made this a necessity tool...

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for recognizing that some viewers want to see real time drawing and also getting that the viewer has the capability of fast forwarding on their own. Viewers, if you want time lapse, just click on settings and change the playback speed.

I'm the same, preferring no time-lapse. However, I do see a need to time-lapse from time to time otherwise it gets really boring. But even for those, instruction is provided.

I so agree with you about the sped up time-lapse demos. Some artosts label them "how to" but they are so ridiculously fast that you learn nothing from them. I can always speed up a real-time video a little bit so I can get the gist of it without it taking as long. Your videos are great.

As a fellow portrait artist I really appreciate watching someone else work for a change. By the way, you do freckles very well. I've seen drawings ruined by 'bad' freckles that are all round and the same shade. Yours is lovely. Thank you. I just realized that I have been watching your videos for a couple of weeks now and never subscribed! In fact I believe it was your review that made up my mind to try Staedtler Lumograph pencils and the KUM longpoint sharpener. Consider that rectified. I've subscribed and I am looking forward to more of your videos. Blessings, and have a wonderful day.

Great tutorial! Thank you so much for doing it and educating people like me who try to learn on their own. I have a question about the paper stump. It's written 6B. What does it mean exactly?
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
+Elena Podmareva When using paper stumps, you may wish to write the value of the pencil you blended. This way, you are minded to not use a blender that was used to blend dark values in areas you don't want that dark value applied.
@trudyparman38618 жыл бұрын
+RixCanDoit I use a 2H graphite to blend for fair skin tone as well. Thanks for taking the time to share your awesome talent. I just started where I left off twenty plus years ago, several months ago and am trying many techniques as well as getting all the tips I can from really good artists as yourself. I have learned a lot this past year without spending g lots of money on an art degree.
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I appreciate your comments. I'm technically a newbie as I didn't start pencil to paper until last September 2014. Because my drawings started to hit realism within a few weeks, I figured that if I could do it, so can anyone else, thus RixCanDoIt "and so can you" was created. Learning from KZbin videos and just applying what I learned was 80% of the process. The other 20% is searching the web and reading, and then practicing and experimenting. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever suspect I could do this! So now I can share the things I've learned with others via my channel here. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@trudyparman38618 жыл бұрын
You're a natural no doubt, realism in a few weeks is unheard of. You have been blessed with a gift! Sketch on!
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you. You're going to give me a big head. Heaven forbid! I'm sure it's not 'unheard' of and the 'gift' I believe we all possess. Anyone who has a passion for something and keeps at it will 'naturally' get better and better. It's a given. Draw on!

Very good and brillant ! but don't you think you need to apply pencil strokes (by cross hatching) along the contour of the subject to create the tonal value instead of using coton buds ?
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
Cross hatching? No. For my realism I need to simply lay down light value, blend, build it up with more, etc. Either use the feather stroke or the small ovals technique. Everyone has their own.

What is the best smudging, blending stump or cotton buds?

There is no 'best'. Each is a little different and you as the artist simply decide which to use and when. Experiment.

How exactly do you shade in a way that it would make a gradual tonal difference, e.g. from shade to the part of the face in which a highlight is at. Or where the most light shines?
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
If you are going from dark to light, you can blend out towards the light using the dark as your graphite source. And of course you can always just add more graphite (or charcoal) to the areas needing to be darker. You can also just switch to your harder pencils as you move away from the dark into the highlights.

do you finish the drawing with the 2h
@RixCanDoit8 жыл бұрын
The pencil you finish with is not set in stone. There are touch-ups to do, adjustments, etc. The 2h is used here because I am looking for a smooth skin look. The hard pencils fill in the paper tooth better so you don't see the paper pattern in the skin. Then you add softer graphite as you layer up and blend.

I avoid time lapse also. They seem like the artist just wants to show themselves painting rather then teach their style. They grand-stand it.
@RixCanDoit5 жыл бұрын
True. Though in some instances the time-lapse is necessary to get through the dull parts and shorten the video. But most of the drawing vids on YT don't seem to be teaching but is more of a 'hey look what I can do'. Hard to learn from that. Thanks for commenting!

And that, my friend, is called drawing in REAL TIME, which many have requested. There are plenty of videos out there where you can watch speed drawing. If you can learn from that, great. If you are going to learn how to draw realistically, then you are going to spend A LOT OF TIME shading a small area. Sorry you didn't pick up on that.
