17:00 this is when Doc gets into Ringo's head. Ringo does an elaborate pistol dance, he's obviously practiced. Then Doc does the EXACT same thing but with a cup. You can see it in Ringo's eyes. It sets the tone from here on out between the two men. That my friends, is called brilliant acting and directing.

So apparently he is actually saying I'm your hucklebearer. A huckle is the handles that are attached to a casket that are used to carry it to the gravesite. The people carrying the casket were referred to as hucklebearers. So Doc is pretty much saying that he will take him to his grave. This is of course assuming the explanation I heard is actually accurate.
@FrenchieQc
@FrenchieQc Ай бұрын
@@jameseyman9078 No. No, no, no, no. Please stop repeating this. It's 100% inaccurate. This is some online myth that has been spread by some no-name website after the movie first came out. There is zero historical references to huckles being an actual term, anywhere, ever. Doc Holliday says Huckleberry, which means, "I'm the guy for the job." He says it twice in the movie, which was confirmed by Kilmer himself. The script says huckleberry. The subtitles on the original dvd releases say huckleberry. Val Kilmer even titled his memoirs "I'm your Huckleberry." It only SOUNDS like hucklebearer because throughout the movie, he slurs his speech with a southern drawl. If you ever hear anyone else say hucklebearer, backhand them, and then educate them with the above.

I don't think Kate had bad intentions toward Doc. I think she understood who Doc was and wasn't about to assist in turning him into an invalid. She knew Doc was about living life to its fullest and wanted to "die with his boots on". Which is also why Doc said what he did during his final moments.

I had an ancestor that killed the last Earp in Arizona in a gunfight on July 6th., 1900 in Wilcox, Arizona. Warren Earp was the youngest brother of Wyatt, Virgil et. all. Warren did not take part in the famous gunfight in Tombstone but did take part in the Vendetta Ride afterwards. Warren was a bully and a braggart that lived off the name of his famous brothers. He was also a drunk. After Warren was killed by my Ancestor Johnny Boyette Virgil came to Willcox to investigate. He found what the Earp family had long expected. That Warren would one day meet with someone who would not be bullied or "cowed" by his bad behavior. El Mirage, Arizona

Dodge City Kansas was the major hub for nearly ALL people heading west. Nearly every person west of the Mississippi knew who Wyatt Earp was. The town of TOMBSTONE is still there, and they have preserved their "old town" where all this happened. IN FACT, the movie was mostly shot in that town. Set up for tourism now, you can buy little cowboy gift items and Mexican blankets, or have a beer in the Crystal Palace or the Oriental. 2-3 reenactments of OK corral battle daily add to the atmosphere. Doc didn't steal the deputy badge - he asked Wyatt what it was "like to wear one of those", and Wyatt gave him the badge. Which from a certain point of view officially deputised him, and did indeed make it legal. An absolute legendary reveal, callback and scene :D
@jeremybr2020

From a certain point of view? Yeah, an incorrect one. Obviously it takes much more than the handing over of a badge to officially deputize a person. I would certainly think that for one to be deputized, the person doing the deputizing would have to be aware of the fact that they are doing so. But the rest of what you said, was spot on.

This is not a word for word translation of the Latin between Ringo and Doc but it's roughly what they meant: Wyatt: He's drunk. Doc (Latin): There's truth in wine. Or roughly "When I'm drunk, I'm honest." Ringo (Latin): Do what you do best. Doc (Latin): I don't think drinking is what I do best. Ringo (Latin): (Touches his gun) Some need to learn from experience. Doc (Latin): Rest in peace. Or roughly "It's your funeral."

Watching the making of this movie, they emphasized their efforts at authenticity. As much as that was a theme, I saw a documentary on these events recently, and it's amazing how much more there is to the story, and how things were a bit different in the Hollywood version. It doesn't change the fact that this is one of my favorite movies, but MAN is there a lot more to this story. Val Kilmer was cheated. Not only was the "two guns, one for each of you" iconic, but if you notice, he spun one gun forward, the other one backwards, further showing, he was still fully able to handle them.

In real life Curly Bill shooting Fred White was ruled an accidental shooting. Fred White didn't die right away, and in fact was alive for a couple of hours after being shot, and some thought he might even survive. When he started to take a turn for the worse, he wrote or at least signed a statement that Curly Bill was trying to handover his gun when he accidentally fired it. Wyatt who had actually seen the shooting also testified in court that he too believed the shooting to be accidental.

Oh -- and I agree with every other comment by your viewers here who claim that Val was robbed when he didn't win an academy award for his performance in this movie. I'm not all that much into Westerns, but there is another western movie I really love: 3:10 to Yuma starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Keep in mind as you enjoy this absolute classic, this is the most accurate telling of actual events. Doc was indeed nuts. He wanted death on his own terms and not to the lung. He was practically chasing death with every breath. Most of his quotes in the movie are from historical records. Kilmer's portrayal of his attitude towards his own well being is perfect. Kate simply understood Doc and supported him even though she knew it was killing him. Doc was sure he was gonna be killed wearing his boots in a fight, this is why he said "this is funny" while looking at his feet as he died. Wyatt really charged into the river like that as well, so tell Frank Castle that Wyatt is the original Punisher.

Kevin Jarrer the amazing writer of this fil & Val Kilmer possibly the best actor of the last 40 years, knew that about him & used it! You'll notice during your favorite line Val actually twirls the guns in opposite directions after saying I have 2 guns 1 for each of you, that's because Doc was ambidextrous! Val is very much a method actor, so he learned how to twirl those guns in opposite directions!There was so much legitimate truths & coloquialisms that went into this film it was just gravid with period knowledge!!! When Doc asks Ike "Why whatever do you mean?" When Ike says nobody can win 12 hands in a row, it's because Doc wants Ike to accuse him of cheating because then legally Doc would have the right to take him outside & gun him down in a fight! Such an epic film!!! So glad you loved it!!! If you guys thought Val was amazing in this, you need to do a reaction to the Doors, the Oliver Stone film when he portrayed Jim Morrison!!! Somewhat interesting trivia..I am from Kansas..home to the 3 original cowtowns…Abilene, Dodge City, and Wichita…the cowboys depicted in Tombstone are not the original cowboys…those guys would be the ones spending 3 months out on the trail herding cattle from Texas to Kansas…and once they reached the rail head, and got paid would spend most of their money getting drunk, tearing up town and whoring around…that’s where Doc Holiday made friends with Wyatt…Wyatt and Bat Masterson were deputy marshals in Dodge City and also Wichita…10 years before Tombstone..and the movie is fairly accurate and factual…Wyatt’s common law wife was hooked on pain killers..and passed away..and Doc did die in Colorado…and Wyatt did move to California..his wife survived him by a good number of years…My great grandfather James was a founding member of the Henry Wells and John Fargo start up..a freight company known as Wells Fargo…in 1854..in Lincoln, Nebraska……

The director also directed Cobra with Sylvester Stallone. That’s the movie he envisioned for Beverly Hills Cop which he was originally supposed to star in but wanted to change it up to more of an action film and not so comedic. So he made Cobra. I knew right off the bat that Devinity’s favorite line was the two guns line. A pretty cool thriller with Kurt Russell is Breakdown. I don’t think I’ve seen any reactions to it, but should be. I find it amusing that when Billy Zane shows up and Sem Elliott asks, what kind of town is this. It’s because he knows he’s gay. That’s why the wjason Priestly character is enamored with him because he is also. Of course during those times, it would not be socially acceptable. There’s a silly western themed movie called Sodbusters which also touches on this subject and has one scene in particularly that’s absolutely hilarious and funny as crap. The movie itself is ok, but it’s pretty much worth watching for that scene. Everyone agrees that Val Kilmer was the standout character in this. Speaking of the opium dens, did you know that’s where the term being hip came from. Being on opium you couldn’t really function and would lay on your side, your hip and just have the pipe there to smoke it. So if someone asked if you were hip, they were asking if you smoked. Of course it went on to just mean getting high, hence hippies. A really good older school western you guys would like with John Wayne is The Cowboys. A little different than what you might think, but good.

The cast is insane, especially when you have a young Billy Zane and Billy Bob Thornton. Val Kilmer steals the movie. He tells a story how he based his accent on a guy who spoke like that. "I'm you huckle berry is actually a misquote.' He said something that sounded like that and Kilmer thought he said huckle berry and used it.

It's so easy for the mayor, Marshall Crawley Dake etc. to ask the Earps to risk their lives, just to turn sulky, when they don't want to. Oh, and my favourite line from the movie is : "Maybe poker's just not your game Ike, let's have a spelling contest." Since Ike was such a douchebag, I think this final humiliation was well deserved.

I only have one movie for you that no one has reacted to and it's one that I watch once a year. It's a fantasy western unlike anything else. 41:10 this is the only part of this movie what can’t be verified as historical fact. When Ringo was killed Doc was on trial in Colorado but really nobody knows who actually killed Ringo. Also historians argue about what Doc Holiday actually says in his “I’m your Huckleberry” line. That is because a few people were quoted as saying he would tell everyone that, however at the time the term “Huckleberrier” ment “ to be a pallbearer” so he could have been offering to carry someone’s casket the whole time. If you ever get a chance go visit Tombstone, Arizona. It’s a small town in the middle of nowhere but worth the trip if you’re in the region. You can see all the bulletin holes in The Birdcage and see Morgan’s blood on the pool table where he died.

I actually found the writing somewhat hackneyed and cliched but the cast and acting more than made up for the weaknesses. The characters and even a lot of dialogue are extremely accurate. The only severe inaccuracies were in the timing. The tensions between the Earps and the Cowboys were much deeper and had developed over several years with a lot of the angles not even examined. Virgil's wounding and the assassination of Morgan actually took place about 6 months apart. The scene in The Oriental when Doc and Johnny Ringo meet sets the attitudes of Johnny and Curly Bill from then on. The gun spinning was considered a cheap parlor trick learned by drovers on the trail to pass the long hours in the saddle and had nothing to do with actually shooting. As drunk as Doc was, he calmly watched Ringo do his little trick one time then repeated it back at him using his whiskey cup instead. Watch their faces as he repeats the trick. Their expressions change from amusement to fear. Wyatt and Doc had a falling out a while before Doc died. Doc didn't approve of Wyatt's relationship with Josie and the way he treated Maddie. He was gone for a couple of months before Wyatt ever found out he had passed away.
