Love these two, they don’t talk over dialogue and actually pay attention with intelligently timed takes. So many channels speak during key parts and miss part of the plot, just to complain later. Thank you for not doing that.

ABSOLUTELY!! I said the same thing! Most reactors think that the more they talk, the better they are. NOT SO! They do a great job here 😊
@user-xo9pz7fd3jАй бұрын
Best reaction! You didn't talk above the film like basically all reactors do, losing the overall picture and the meaning of key moments. Losing the depth and meaning of the movie. The movie is quite credible from a historical point of view, Commodus really loved fighting in the arena and it seems that he was killed in a fight with one of his slave gladiators. The graphics, the weapons, the clothes, the military tactics, the context are quite credible, with only a few exceptions: no one in that era would have faced the Roman army face to face, preferring instead guerrilla tactics. Most of the battles would have already ended after the artillery, without ever coming to a direct clash, the technological superiority of the legions was overwhelming. Finally there is the typically American obsession with democracy, Marcus Aurelius would never have thought of bringing back the Republic, Rome had already been for about 500 years, but the Empire was so vast, from Scotland to Syria, and inhabited by about 60 million people that it would have been impossible to manage it with a pure democracy. From the foundation of the empire onwards there was a continuous administrative decentralization with a strong autonomy of the provinces. Great reaction, well done! Obviously I subscribed to the channel 😊😉 Hugs from Rome

Yea, it's pretty funny to me that the sequel is the one that has been getting people to watch this movie, of all things. Not because it won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Costume, Best Sound, Best Visual, or that it so often makes the rounds in people's choice of favorite movies, or anything. :p But hey, better seen than not, that's for sure. I also feel the need to brace people for the disappointment that is the "sequel" (really just a remake), especially if they're expecting equivalent greatness. Nowhere near this level of cinema. Ridley Scott's been on a roll with the flops lately, which is really disappointing, as he was once one of my favorite directors. There was a time I was like, "Oh, Ridley Scott did this?! Done." Alas, no longer, after Napoleon, Gladiator II, and more...

I was 32 when this came out and my father was 57 and he retired that year. I took him out to celebrate with a big dinner, some drinks then we ducked into our nearest theater not knowing this was playing. I never saw my father enjoy a movie more than this one, he absolutely loved it. He's gone now but that was a great memory we got to share because of this movie.

The actor who played Proximo (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta (after a bet), he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.
@DannyWalker19639 күн бұрын
Also on Oliver Reed.. As a result of his death, Reed's remaining scenes in Gladiator had to be completed using a body double and computer-generated imagery (CGI) techniques.[

The cinematic and emotional quality of this film clearly shows that a second part is not only unnecessary, but also wrong. I saw the second part and won't give any spoilers. But he is proof that there are films that should be seen for themselves and that Ridley Scott shouldn't make any more films
@maggieshevelew169322 күн бұрын
I will never see the “sequel”. How do you add a part two to a masterpiece with a perfect ending?
@diannaellis470825 күн бұрын
In the movie "Gladiator," the filmmakers were allowed to burn down a forest for the opening battle scene because they received permission from the Royal Forestry Commission, who had already planned to clear the area for deforestation, allowing them to film the burning forest as part of the scene in exchange for essentially "doing the work" of clearing the land for them; this was filmed at Bourne Wood in Surrey, England.
@javix2013Ай бұрын
Gladiator is a great classic, it is rare that you have not seen it before, since you were young at the time of the premiere. Mel Gibson's Braveheart, is another great classic of that style and also an Oscar winner, they are like sister movies, in fact sometimes they sell Blu Ray packs with both movies together, so it would be great if they react to it.

Marcus Aurelius was played by the first Dumbledore, yes (Richard Harris). Harris appeared in the first two HP films, but later on died. Therefore, Michael Gambon continued playing Dumbledore in the rest of HP saga. Also, Richard Harris, had many stories of carousing and escapades with Peter O´Toole (and also an incident with the aforementioned Oliver Reed)
@shilohauraable13 күн бұрын

Marcus Ulpius Traianus and Publius Aelius Hadrianus (both from Hispania, actual Spain), were the best and greatest emperors of the Roman Empire. Marcus Aurelius was a great one, probably the most cultured and profound, having his written testimonies as reliable proof.

Few people know this but, in the first scene with the battle against the Germanic tribe there is no CGI at all, or any other effects and tricks !!...This scene was filmed at an area in England called Bourne Wood, which was meant for deforestation from a wood company...but instead of that, the owners of the forest get paid (much more) from the movie production, to have the forest burned with fireballs for the needs of the movie, instead of cutting the trees down.....So anything you see there is totally real !!!
