What you say does make a lot of sense . My music is Brazilian, most of it written in Portuguese. The conversion rate for my ads in Brazil is way higher than English speaking countries. So, I have been testing advertising in Brazil and Portugal only, and the cost per click ranges between 0,04 and 0,08 cents. Which I think is pretty good. 😊

Love that! There's something to be said for removing the barrier to communication. It's a big factor.

Good and real advice. I've been producing for about 7 years but stopped releasing after the first 2 when realizing you need to put down money for this to work. I think I've built up a decent catalogue at this point where I cold now fully focus myself on the campaign and really try to optimize it. I had the same thoughts and views from similar experiences and this video just validates it. Thank you so much.

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE AMAZING! I always receive an admirable amount of traffic and link clicks, but no new listeners show up on my Spotify. Not even one. And I haven't been able to find a solution for this heartache (yes, the countries are outside of your list). You have indeed saved me from many upcoming heartaches.

Your list of preferred countries is spot on. Something I've noticed with my campaigns- listeners from Western countries tend to have higher engagement rates (playlist adds, saves and Stream/Listen ratio) on Spotify. Really handy for hitting the algorithm.

Agreed. And I've had the same experience. As a US-based artist (and for most of our agency artists, who are also US-based), Western-based listeners engage at a much higher rate.

Great video Tom! Looking forward to applying this advice in my next campaign. It got me thinking about ways to find out the best countries to target based on your genre.

Funny thing is Morocco has been by far our best performer for plays, but I think they must like the saxophone there, as it is prominent in our best performing song, but for playlist adds the US seems the highest.

I was literally wondering if I could find any test for this. In my case I'm about to run fb ads for an instrumental ambient music playlist. Most of our audience right now is in tier 1 countries. However we just released a single with a label that own big playlists and surprise surprise all our listeners for that release have skyrocketed the audiences of Brazil, Mexico and Turkey. So in regards to run our own ads shall we just stick to tier 1 countries? The spotify payout from those tier 2 and 3 countries is so low that I'm not sure it's even worth targeting them. But I guess it all depends how much of a difference the fb ads CPM and CPC are right? What do you suggest? Cheers!

hey quick ? around the 13:00 mark . so are you saying if I were to run an engagement campaign optimizing for tru views on a reel and i add tier 2 countries in there. those will be bottled thru views too?

Very insightful! I am from the Netherlands (relatively small compared to the US/UK etc). Would you suggest focusing on Western EU countries first instead of tier 1/2 countries?
@tomdupreeiii3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I think focusing on Western EU would be a great move in your case.

I would very much like to hear your opinion about my experience: I create a mixture of Synth Pop / Punk music. The last two ads for the last two songs were very successful (conversion compaigns), especially in Central and South America. The Spotify numbers grew and are still growing, lot of saves and followers. So would you recommend to take your 13 countries and add those successful countries on top for the next campaign? Or would you in my case start up only with that successful countries? Thanks for your insightful video :)

Cheaper countries will eat up your budget

Hi Tom, Thanks for this great and informative video! Using conversion campagins, if you were just starting out as an artist, would you target T2 countries like MX,BZ,AR in order to get more listeners for the amount of money spent? I can pay like 20$ over 4 days to get 15-20 conversions in T1 countries, which is pretty expensive! If a higher number of individual listeners increases the chances of triggering the Spotify's algorithm it makes sense to target cheaper countries to get more momentum?
@sumsumab18094 ай бұрын
If you meant 20$ overall budget, then it won't be enough either way to exit learning phase on meta ads

Hey Tom, if we were to take streaming services out of the picture with the aim of driving traffic to a website or a platform like bandcamp for sales, would the method of using those 13 primary countries you mentioned be the same (for Facebook/insta ads). Thanks.
@tomdupreeiii2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think that would be a great place to start for that as well. Over time though, I'd work to narrow in on probably the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Perhaps even US and Canada only. Especially if you're working to increase sales and customers in service of touring.

running ads to a unprofitable company seems like a waste of money

The Nasdaq is littered with unprofitable companies. Spotify ain't the only one.

As a starting musician you are paying for exposure. You cannot expect any profit for a while unless you hit the jackpot somehow.
