Hey guys, love both of these campers. I've hauled the 8'11 for years on my short box and here's what I've learned: get a dually if you're going to haul one. And on the vid they have them jacked up, not sure how they maintained the payload with those. I'd get a dually and keep it stock. For the short box version, the 8"11 is designed for the Ford short box, and not the other brands. The Ford is 7 feet and others are like 6"5 and less for Dodge. NOT a good fit on the Dodge at all trust me. The only truck that hauls the 8'11 right is the Ford. Dont do the same mistake as I did. Best camper i've ever owned. Would go for 1 month at a time in it, really comfy and the surround sound is epic for after parties ;)

I have the 10-2 EXCD except it's the 2015/16 model. I carry it on my 2009 Ford F-350 SWR (single rear wheels). I pulled out the Ford 6.4 and mine has a 6.7 Cummins which runs like a boss. I spend May through Oct boondocking all over the Western US. I have been on jeep tails, mountain trails up to 13500 ft, the Mormon trail through southern Utah, cross streams, etc. basically anywhere a 4x4 can go and this camper has taken all the abuse I can throw at it. Nothing has broken yet. Sure there are some scratches along the sides from narrow trails, but these actually buff out. I have camped down to 23 F temps with no problems. I have made some upgrades, but it seems like these are now standard on the new ones. I upgraded the thermostat to digital, the batteries, but now I hear you can get lithium which is great, I only have the 90 watt solar panel but now it comes with two 100 watt which is another upgrade on my list. This camper handles great off road and on the highway. I do have stableloads on my truck and recommend them if you are carrying any type of camper. Really happy with this rig and so is the wife...she loves it. Highly recommend it. It does cost more than a Lance or other brands, but the quality really shows and more important holds up under "real" camping conditions.

Hi I'm planning to go for this Camper 10-2 limited, on f550 Chassis which is going for modifications of SRW, and the bed is going to be 2500lb . Due you think this weight is going to affect the stability? I'll be going off-road frequently?truck payload 9980 lb
@flyingdutchman75854 жыл бұрын
@@kkh5177 With the 550 your suspension is going to be more than needed for the camper, even with the bed weight. The most limiting thing is going to be your tires. Make sure you get good tires that have the highest sidewall rating you can find, E being most likely what you can find, but this varies by tire manufacture as to the weight it can support so do your research. I run Toyo Open Country AT II's. For my rim and tire size (35X12.50R20LT it has a max load capacity of 3195 lbs) This has proven to be a great tire. It runs excellent on highway in rain and it also handles well in snow. Off road they have done great also. The wear after three years has been excellent. I do not recommend airing down for any length of time as it lessens the sidewall support. The weights given are always at the max suggested (in my case 65lbs PSI). The only draw back if you can call it that is these tires run about 400 plus ea. And I also run a full size spare. But I don't worry about them blowing out under weight. Lastly, I run Tork Lift Stableloads and these are worth their weight in gold as far as stability. I get no sway at 75 mph on the highway and they keep things really stable on rough back country roads. The good thing about these is you can disengage them when you have the camper off the truck with the turn of a wrench. Here are links for the tires and the stableloads. I just run the lower stableloads so don't have any experience as to how much of an improvement the uppers would do. www.toyotires.com/product/open-country-at2 www.torklift.com/rv/stableload hope that helps. Hit me up if you have any other questions.

I have a 2006 8-11Q, and by far the best camper I have ever owned. It will not leak unless you really neglect re sealing the windows every 5 years. it's like 2 boat halves put together. The camper is rigid and doesn't sway like wooden ones causing gaps in the seals. I Buff the gel coat every 2 years when i do my boat and it looks new. Slide outs leak and although the give lots of indoor room, I spend most of my time outside by the campfire. Has DSI hot water 2 batteries with an inverter and 2 20 lb propane tanks. Generator fits in the back right compartment and Air conditioning works off a 2000 watt inverter gen. The center of gravity is ahead of the rear wheels.These are 30 - 40 year campers. These aren't cheap but they are built to last. The carpet is a runner as not to get the floor dirty. Oh and mine weighs 2100 Lbs. There's not a lot of new innovations with these, It's all practical.

Can you carry this on a 1/2 ton?
@demitriosvekkf.z.77685 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but I wouldn't for safety reasons. I've been looking around for campers myself and thought a 1/2 ton would be an ok truck for most campers but it's not. Take a look at the 'payload' weights for trucks, that's what can rest in the bed of the truck. I think they said the dry weights were over 2.5 tons and the camper will rest in the bed of the truck. The payload is not the same as towing capacity - so while trucks can haul weight, it's not the same as being able to have it rest on the truck bed. There's other reasons you wouldn't want to use a 1/2 ton truck, but safety should be the #1 reason.
