That's an absolutely quality video. These videos where you demonstrate on real appliances what the books go through make a world of difference to our understanding. Thanks Derek

Hello from Greece. That was massively helpful. I 've found my father's old gas heater and I didn't know anything about how or why it did not work. This video provided me with substantial information and I managed to clean the jets, replace the thermocouple and now I am waiting for the harsh winter to come. Harsh outdoors though, cause indoors will be blazing HOT. thank you

This has to be *one* of my favourite videos on your channel (they’re all amazing).The way you explained and demonstrated how a thermoelectric/thermocouple and a ASD works was absolute genius. I have a well better understanding now. Before I just used to hear time and time again about *‘over rides the safety device, over rides the safety device’* but now I actually get it! It’s like you have special vision and know the areas I struggle with and then know what video to upload 😂 Thanks so much Derek 👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.

Another amazing video Derek on the thermocouple and Asd, I've not tried the Asd test we did it once at tomkat Centre but due to the heat I think we had the fear of burning our hands. 😂🤣. Its all part of the training and learning new techniques on how to perform these tests. Great video.. 👍👍😀😀

Very helpful. Many thanks. My thermocouple or thermoelectic device on my oven appears to have stopped working. Given its location I am going to try tickling the thermocouple with a small brass brush. If that does not work, can I replace the thermocouple?I live in the UK.

I have a 3 burner dometic lpg gas stove in my camper if I push and twist black dial in and turn it to full flame then hit the ignition spark buton it ignites on full flame but goes out as soon as I realease the the black twist dial . but if I do this again and start it on a very very low flame it stays on . Then I can turn it up to full flame .. . And sometimes doesn't stay on no matter what I do . The other burners don't mess around like that. They start on any setting .

Excellent video! However, could you please help me with one thing: when you demonstrate the thermocouple operation with a multimeter, you mention that inside the copper is another wire that closes the circuit towards the thermoelectric decive. However, when you remove the thermocouple at 8:40, that thermocouple has another additional (white) wire connected, that was not present during the demonstration before. Is my assumption correct, that the white wire is basically the same, but instead of the coaxial "inner" solution, running outside of the copper tube? Thanks in advance!

If you have replaced the thermocouple and the pilot still won’t stay lit then it’s the thermoelectric in the gas valve

I have a 2 ring gas hob in my campervan. The gas keeps turning off and I think its the thermocouple. The hob has the correct butane injectors so I've ruled that out. Can the thermocouple just be completely removed (by a registered engineer) to allow the gas hob to work again?
@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
No you need a new thermocouple or hob

Great video. Hate that using all capitals at 4:17 has a huge effect on the voltage that comes from the thermocouple. 30mV vs 30MV is pretty significant. I always assumed that the pilot assembly was a fully mechanical device. A bit blown away that it's actually electric.

Your videos are brilliant but honestly, too verbose. Everyone want a decent message in decent amount of time. You should edit your videos and shorten these to not more than 25% of initial duration.
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
No sorry I make a video to give the information to my trainees if I think it needs to be 10 minutes then I will make a 10 minute video and if I think it needs to be an hour then it’s an hour. If you want 25 % of the time you will get 25 % of the information or just watch someone else on the subject 😜
