On flame out, the expanding gas that still flows assists in the cooling of the thermocouple, causing the millivolts to drop away to deenergise the coil, releasing the spring loaded valve plunger to shut off the gas flow. So neat and clever.

The first time I bought a cooker with this feature, it really bogged me trying to understand how it works. I even thought I'll need to keep the cooker on electricity for it work, and was even more surprised when it worked without electricity. Super cool, and very creative!

Hugest thanks for taking the time to unwrap this device. With your information I was able to troubleshoot our propane heater. I was about to replace it, but I don't have to now. This video is really appreciated 🙏🏼😎 Your a legend!

Wow. I had no idea that's how these worked. I always assumed they were gas or liquid filled and just replaced the whole assembly including the valve because of that misunderstanding. Thank you.

Very well explained and very clear video. I searched about the thermocouple as I was curious about its principle and did not know how it works. Now I know what is going on in my home portable gas heater. Thank you 👍

very well explained. thank you. it would've also been super cool if you showed a measurement of the voltage at the terminal while heating/cooling the tip.

Thank you for that excellent explanation, at least I know that my kitchen gas hob will still work in the event of a power cut as this system is totally self contained to each burner. As a side note I have found that the thermocouple protecting the small hob burner needs cleaning fairly often as it can be rendered inoperative by even a thin layer of carbon dust acting as an insulator. Wow, I have learnt two useful things this week. :)

I don't think it has anything to do with electricity. But it works by expanding the metal tip and then pushing the tip on the valve to lock it.

Thanks for explanation! I think that when the system is installed correctly, in the event of an abnormal burner extinguishment, it works quite quickly, because the gas continues to blow over the sensor and it cools faster than in this demonstration.

Perfect demonstration! Is there a reason how some stovetops instantly close the gas stove when you put the handle in the 0/initial position? I don't get how they manage to instantly close the valve without waiting for the cooloff delay.

My thermocouple when heated is giving about 26mV but not engaging the magnetic safety valve even if you press the valve. Could the magnetic valve be mismatched with the thermocouple from factory? Which magnetic valve works on 26mV??

Try cleaning the thermocouple tip and post gently with either wire wool or a fine stainless metal pan cleaner to remove any carbon deposits, it fixed my small gas hob burner that has been bugging me for weeks, saw that tip on another KZbin video. :)
