I love that the 'sloppy' look is going out! lol The really oversize falling off the shoulders sweaters etc. On someone like me that just looks horrible. The more classic dressing with the oversize jackets I think will always be in style in some way in every generation!

These would have to be my favourite videos, and it also reminds me to people-watch and take note of the trends when I travel. I've just booked a trip to Hamburg, Germany next year so I'll definitely be looking at the local fashion trends. I'm surprised you've not made the Sew To Grow Kaia Costigan yet, I've made it a number of times and it's my very favourite casual knit blazer pattern. The princess seams lend themselves very well to zippered welt pockets, which I prefer to a patch pocket. Also, I don't do the little cutout to make the lapel, I prefer a narrow shawl collar.

I’m so sorry you didn’t get to go to Metro Textiles and see Kashi’s gorgeous fabrics. I was in NYC in July for the American Sewing Guild National Conference and bought 4 pieces of fabric from him - all of them for $6 a yard. I was a little overwhelmed by Mood but it was still fun to go there.

Agree on the Mood comment. Went to NYC last summer, and hit Metro Textiles and Mood. Learned so much at Metro; everyone there was so giving of their time and knowledge. Mood, was so overwhelming to me, however, having my 6’8” husband along sure helped get bolts down from the high places for me (and other shoppers, too!) I think we should plan another trip to NYC with Whitney in tow as sort of a field trip!

Thanks for this very in-depth project featuring looks from NYC! Personally, I am having some difficulty embracing the “oversized” look being top heavy, 5’4”, and trying to stay true to my classic, tailored aesthetic sans jeans. That being said, I did find several of these looks to be something I want to recreate for myself! Look #1 and Looks #5 and #6 were my favs. While watching your video, Whitney, I ordered Know Me 2001 Coat pattern (currently on sale) and a beautiful wool coating from Stylemaker! Checking on the link you provided for the orange pleated shell you are wearing for the video: the link said the pattern was the Adrienne blouse by the Friday company, but that was a knit pattern with no pleating at the neckline? When you get a chance, could you double-check to see if a link got accidentally swapped somewhere? (I love your pleated blouse, and I want to make one!) Thanks so much--

What would you suggest for the lining of a trench coat? There is a nice plaid.
@TomKatStitchery Жыл бұрын
It depends on how warm you want it. If you're wanting a lighter weight one, I would suggest a bemberg rayon or even china silk. You could even use a polyester fabric as long as it's slippery. If you're wanting something a bit warmer - flannel backed satin (sometimes called Kasha lining) is great as well!
