I think I haven't dialed it down until today. But that's mostly because of the lack of enough days in the snow (have to drive 1.000 km to get to the next resort). However, it took me maybe 1 day to get used to the new riding style and another day to be all sure what I'm doing.

Dude, as someone who just started snowboarding at the age of 34, this was the most helpful video I've watched yet, period. I was turning by leaning backward and forward, not doing anything with my front foot specifically and I never felt in control at all.

a good think to add is to practice ankle mobility at home, try placing a band against your talus and bend ur knee past ur toes until you reach full range of motion, then repeat the motion as much as u need. It helped me bend me knee forward more than 2inches

Great video dood!! My snowboard coach Wes brought this up a lot. He even had accidentally broken his high backs during a workshop but kept riding them so he was able to show me that relying too much on the bindings can really bring out bad habits in your riding. Watch this video everyone! It is so worth it to learn how to prevent heel lift with your technique. Bye bye blisters!!

"Knee steering is for skidded turns, not carving" - well said. One thing I'd add with the knee steering drills is it's good to get students to experiment with being super stiff vs super relaxed while executing this. It's important to have those knees and hips relaxed during this drill so it's good to call that out and experiment with tension as a way of dialing it in. Keep putting out the good content!

That's an awesome tip! 🤘I've always just bought my boots a couple sizes too small because I read somewhere a while back the linings pack out after breaking them in causing them to be too big, thus causing heel lift. Stoked to try this new technique.

Do your boots actually pack out? Cuz mine didn’t and dont 😂
@coltonjobst31223 жыл бұрын
@@KevAlberta mine do, but then again I put on 80 days and above every season. Also depends on the company who makes the boots and how hard/and often you ride.
@KevAlberta3 жыл бұрын
@@coltonjobst3122 how many days would you say to pack out? I’m on day 40 and they aren’t any looser. How could someone struggle with cramped foot space for more than like 5 or 10 days max? If it doesn’t pack out in that time what’s the point Edit: Im using Burton boots btw
@coltonjobst31223 жыл бұрын
@@KevAlberta I ride 32 boots (best boots in my opinion) they have a really good liner that molds to your foot easier than most boot manufacturers. Another trick would be to go the a shop and have them thermal mold them, as in blast the liner with some heat, put a little rubber toe cap on your foot, put your foot in the boots and stand in them for 20 minutes to 30 minutes. That's how I fit boots for people that are having slight issues. I buy my boots only a half size smaller than I need. I also found burton boots don't pack out as easily, stiffer or more dense foam for their liners.

So my big question is....I know you loosened your boot just as a demonstration, but are you *supposed* to have your boots not 100% tight so that you have a little room to push your shins into them? I have always tightened my boas as tight as they go, but this makes it hard to lean my shins into them and makes it hard for me to do toeside turns.

That's going to be a tough question for somebody two ankles to answer. You're lucky it's your back foot at least, but there will probably be limitations when it comes to carving and powder riding, but you could look at skating/one foot riding tips and apply those principles.

Hey tommy thanks for all the vids you put out! Do you have any idea why the top of my feet hurt so much when riding? Specifically right where my heel strap lays, feels like my foot is pushing into my heel strap too hard and after a couple runs gets pretty irritating. I loosened my heel strap some and not much relief
@markj34893 жыл бұрын
This may not be your issue, but....if your ankles are too relaxed while you're riding, it will cause pressure on the tops of your feet. This typically occurs when your legs are too straight and your boards tilt is being generated through the highbacks rather than through angulation of the ankles. Rewatch his bit in this video about the heel side; it has some good bits on this issue.
@B-Rad-Gee3 жыл бұрын

Hi Tommy, awesome video again. You seem to be really fit and athletic doing this tricks for us. I want to ask, are there any workout routines that you recommend to a (not so basic) snowboarder with a day job to improve snowboarding ?
@okosakaroklenni3 жыл бұрын
KZbin lmgtfy: Core strengthening, everything related to proper squatting, from foot arch throug hip mobility up to thoracic functionality. Aim for being able to do deep squats in _perfect_ form with at least your bodyweight. Also being able to do pistol squats is a good indication of being strong enough. I recommend channels like Squat university, athlean-x, calesthenicmovement, strength side. But I strongly recommend finding a professional trainer or a physician who can check your current form and set up a path for you. And this is tuff you want to do daily. In addition I also recommend doing A LOT of balancing. Really, A LOT. Like 15 minutes a day on average. It will improve your overall stability, especially in rought terrain to unbelievable levels. Also you need to improve your lactate threshold in your quads and glutes with cycling or wall squat presses. In my experience a simple "daily routine" just wont cut it its rather a lifestyle. But if you don't have time or motivation for that, then regular functional workouts mentioned above will be good enough. (btw I snowboard about 40 days a season, and also wakeboard 3-4 times a week in the summer, have 2 workout sessions with a trainer each week,do yoga and stuff at home on a daily basis and still I feel like a weak piece of s*ht :) )
