Hi Tom, Oh My Gosh! That looks delicious. Thanks for the tutorial. Will you being doing one on your bread sticks. That looks delicious too. Oh, I just heard the other day that "the experts are now saying that coconut oil is bad for you." Whenever I hear something is bad for you it always makes me wonder who funded the study. :-)
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, they have spent too much time telling us fat is bad, they cant let any "oil" be good for you. At the end of the day we are all dying, some faster than others, but smile, hug someone you love and just eat the chocolate cake, nothing is going to prevent our eventual destiny. I will try to do a breadsticks one this Thursday ;)

My husband has been wanting a pizza oven.. I dont know whether to let him watch this or not. LOL. We've been making pizza for 28 years. Pizza and a movie for our family of 8 usually is Avatar, Nickelodeon's Ang the last airbender, Psych, any number of animes, sci-fy, or historical viewing. With 4 or 5 grown/growing boys/men in our house who love leftover pizza, we make 5 or 6 pizzas with cooked breakfast sausage or turkey pepperoni or both. I will def give your recipe a try this weekend. 😋

Tom, I love the way you have experimented through the years to find that perfect pizza--something I love to do as well; tweak recipes until they are their very best. I think you should be a guest cook on that show, 'America's Test Kitchen!' How did you learn your way around the kitchen so well? Your mom, grandma? Between you and your beautiful wife, I think you could do ANYTHING!!! And those little eyes are watching and learning, every day; and will be well prepared for life as they grow. Blessings to you all, from biggest to small (I adore Claudia!!!)

@nicolemayle39217 жыл бұрын
You're using the wrong tools for the getting the pizza out once it's done. I just don't want you to burn yourself. At pizza hut they use a pizza pan gripper and longer pancake style spachela, I worked there 5 years and still couldn't have avoided the occasional hot oil. I found a training/interview video:kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGq2naRomNBqrrM . This should be able to help with experimenting with the crust.
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
I actually have the grippers, but the 16" pan is too heavy to lift with it. I have some actual Pizza Hut pans that they work great with tho except they're mediums. I'm gonna take notes on the video, thanks!

I spotted the birthday ducken in the background at the end there. How do you feed the lot of you with 1 pie? Loads of sides? We do 2 - 14 inch pizzas for 6 people (thinner crust as a preference), but still.
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! I wondered if anyone would see the duck :Þ The thick crust does make a difference, and the 16" is a bit more, when we go to a regular pizza place I normally eat 4 pieces or so, but I can barley eat 2 of this one. But several kids (Judah, asher and eden) don't really like pizza that much and would rather eat the juicy bread sticks instead hehe. I will do a video for the bread sticks in the near future.

Just a quick question, Tom. The PDF recipe says 17 oz bread flour and 6 oz all-purpose flour but you clearly said the opposite a couple of times in the video. Would you please let me know which is correct? After watching you make pizza so many times, I'm ready to try in myself. My inspiration will be your amazing pizzas! I think you are doing a great job caring for your family. You have wonderful kids and I love watching your videos! Much love and prayers.
@TomMillsFamily3 жыл бұрын
Well the all purpose flour I used here was closer to a wheat flour, so if that's what you are using, use 6 oz, if you are using a white all purpose, do 50/50 :)

Wow, Tom, you should open a little pizzeria and sell your delicious pizzas!! I have never seen a homemade pizza look so delicious!! I've never been good at making dough with yeast in it. I don't have a mixer with a dough hook, so I've never mastered the art of kneading by hand. I'm willing to give this a try though because it looks so great. That pizza oven is a jewel too. I didn't know you could have them installed in homes (just never thought about it). What kind of pizza sauce do you like using? I may try making one this weekend. And those bread sticks looked so good too. Did you make them as well? If so, is there a recipe for them too? Now I'm craving pizza and it's the middle of the night☺️🍕

I love this comment, thanks! Our bread flour was closer to a wheat flour, and 17oz of water worked well for it. I realized later when we switched back to regular flour that 16oz works better most of the time for a 16" pizza. Good luck!

great pizza. Without checking, I think it's a chemical reaction of the salt and yeast which helps it to rise more it might work even better with more bread flour because I think you add salt to yeast when making bread. I made be wrong but it's gone midnight and I am too tired to check. sorry if I am wrong.
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
Good ideas! I always heard salt restricted the yeast from growing too much, so I am not really sure whats going on but it's crispy on the bottom and silky on the top...I'll takt it :Þ
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! First person all my life that knew what that was, I've been doing it for a while, but honestly didn't know what it was called, after a google you made me laugh, thanks! I wish I would have taken a pic of the first time I sprinkled salt on the edges, it looked like a doughnut with the dough high on the edges but low in the middle. I am suspecting it may remove the water in the edges of the dough causing it to get more "crusty" I think this is perhaps creating a barrier that keeps the oil from soaking into the dough as much. The oil is great "frying" the outside of the dough but sometimes makes it a little too dense, this solves the problem...somehow.

Have you tried sifting your flours together? Is that a little Pizza oven???
@TomMillsFamily7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I used to sift them, but it is just one more step that I often don't end up getting to and one more dish that needs washed lol so I never end up doing it. Yeah it is a little pizza oven I bought at an auction for a local diner that was going out of business. It a "parbake" oven, meaning it is basically for cooking frozen pizzas (Partially baked), so it is similar to a regular oven except the entire surface is made out of stone which helps things cook more evenly.
