@TomsBigSpiders8 жыл бұрын
I eyed this one for a while. When I saw my first one, they were selling upwards of $500! I watched the price go further and further down, and finally I splurged. I usually do not spend that much on a T, but a breeder had a sexed female on sale for about $220. I jumped on it, and am sooo glad I did. I was worried about paying that much for a spider, but I'm definitely happy with the purchase.

5:55... I currently feed my slings every 2 days. My GBB is the size of my pinkie nail, I want to toughen her up as soon as possible. Same with my T. albopilosus. She's a teeny-tiny sling. My G. pulchra, well she just likes to eat. I figure that, they've been around for millions of years, they'll instinctively know if, or if not to eat. I don't know why I default to "her/she", I just do. Wishful thinking maybe ? haha
@TomsBigSpiders3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good to me! hahaha The only issue I've found with aggressive feeding schedules is that you can end up with really long premolt periods.

I was given a sling for my birthday. Wasnt very active only ate 2 crickets in 3 weeks, and then it died. I didnt have a heated room set up and living in the uk during the autumn im thinking it wasnt warm enough. Unfortunately some stores sell these creatures without giving any advice and are just interested in the money. And i sadly didnt know enough about them. The crickets are doing realy well though.
@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
Hello! What were the temps there? Yeah, it's the same in the states with the pet stores. They are just trying to make money, and most don't bother to tell you how to care for them.

Im thinking on picking up this species as my firdt old worlds tarantula. Gladly the price very low for this already. Around 1 inch sized ones cost around 8$. But the coloration is amazing.
@TomsBigSpiders29 күн бұрын
I actually recommend this species as a good "starter" old worlds. Just be aware that the slings are quite fast, but they tend to calm down with size. And MAN...I remember when they were selling for $450 per sling!
@ashuragaming198129 күн бұрын
@@TomsBigSpiders yea price dropped insanely. I am an Ant keeper, Maybe operating the rehouse in a plastic container, and use some baby oil on the lip can prevent the spider from escaping. It works with ants. but rehousing is not that big deal no needed to do it every day. like 3-4 months.

Hey Tom! So.. I have an opportunity to breed my (hopefully) mature female H pulchripes with someone who lives in the same town as I do, and he’s willing to take the sac and raise it himself! I’m super excited about it, but... I have no experience with breeding and after scouring arachnoboards for a while and am still not confident. Any experience or advice?
@TomsBigSpiders3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Elizabeth! Will you guys be doing the pairing together? If so, allow the male to approach the female in her enclosure. Be on standby with paint brushes to separate them should she want a post-coital meal. I did not pair my male myself, but a buddy of mine did with his female. and they were pretty gentle. Let me know how it goes!

Thete are no downside feeding slings heavily. Quite the opposit! There have been research in this area you can tell the people that says otherwise. A well fed sling will grow larger and healthier as an adult. Ut is when they are large juveniles and adukts you should feed more seldom

i just bought a sling. the owner said he bought it in jan 3/4-1in. now 4 months later its 2.5in. does the growth rate sound male,he fed once a week but bigger meals. vent looks female but thats not for sure. he also said he tried to sex it, thought he seen something but it was still to small. i pray its female. how fast has ur sling grown
@TomsBigSpiders8 жыл бұрын
It sounds pretty similar to the growth rate of my sling...maybe a little faster. What temps was he keeping it at? I got my sling at the end of the summer, so it only got about a month of warm temps before things cooled off a bit in my house. Now that it's warmed back up, I'm expecting it to pick up a bit in the growth department. My sling started off at about 1" or so in late August and is now about 3".

U might not want to put your hand in there, it’s an African tarantula a and their Venom is pretty potent. Her response was, spiders have venom!!!! I was no longer good after that, I said u do realize that EVER spider uses venom, she had no idea.... I was truly amazed that day of how truly uneducated people are, sad 😢

+Tom Moran I think its trying to intimidate any would be predators with its flashy blue legs is the reason why its flattening itself up like that. Pretty cool defense behavior, am guessing they do that in the wild as their first line of defense if discovered by a predator, then biting as their second line of defense if the flashy blue leg intimidation method didn't work lol
