After his tragic death at the end of the Jeff Beck tour, Beck said Tommy was the greatest guitar player he'd ever seen. Now THAT is a recommendation.

Wow this is very cool! I never got to see Tommy live (I was only 6 at the time). I am from Yankton, SD about an hour from his home town, Sioux City Iowa. When I got older, I was totally blown away by his talent. Still am. I am sincerely sad that he is no longer with us. However, I do believe in a rock-n-roll heaven, and he is surely there! :)

Congrats! You have the best close up footage of Tommy playing on the net.. Too bad it is not paired up with the audio.. but back in those days camcorders had not been born yet. I used to play that very guitar he is playing in this video after his death. His Mom would lend it to me.. So cool to see him playing it.. This is very rare footage for sure!

Tommy's playing trancends reality and is a drug in itself. His death was the greatest tragedy of unfulfilled potential in music history.

@twiggygil It would make my love for the man and his music complete to be able to visit his grave and leave a pick from one of my gigs, I am going to research and find the location thanx for the post and warm words about the player of a lifetime that he was, I would sell every vintage fender,Jackson, and even my E.S.P to have one of those one hundred Dean Teaser sticks from the Namm show...Hear um howl.......R.I.P. I absolutely love Tommy bolin we all have our opinions. How is he better then Duane Allman? He's not their both phenomenal. How is he better then Terry Kath hes not. Better then Joe Walsh yes, Blackmore yes better then that caliber, but music got better because of collaboration in fusion.

@twiggygil No my friend, next time leave two picks, but remove one. It's like getting to soul jam with a brother you never met! Both of your appreciation and discerning ears led you there. He should be celebrated, and what better way than to swap a pick with another dedicated soul, that you can take home and think about for years to come as you also continue the path of self discipline and dedication. Jam one out for Tommy, man!
