Important Legendary Denver group ZEPHYR live at the Texas Pop Festival and Denver's Mammoth Gardens Circa 1970.This Line up included the great late Tommy Bolin on guitar.
Since no audio exists of these rare performances, an audio dub from their first self titled Lp has been added!

I was lucky enough to see Zephyr and Candy Givens with Tommy Bolin when they had just released the first album. One of the best rock and roll concerts I have very been to. Thanks see you on the other side.

Great band. Caught them the summer of 1970. They all were great players. David Givens bass work really impressed me. At that time it looked like he was using an early 1950s Precision Bass with the one single coil pickup and on piece maple neck that looked like a log. Great tone though.

The music of this band is so incredible, and its' history so tragic (losing two legendary performers long before their time) that a book or a documentary or a movie should be made about them. I am a HUGE fan of music from this era, and had never even heard of them til now, and that's a travesty. The rest of the world should hear, and hear about, Zephyr. Maybe bassist David Givens could write their story...

Caught Zephyr 04/10/70, in San Antonio, Tx., around time period of this performance. Still blown away how fresh this sounds. This group knew how to improvise, much like groups I saw opening shows back then, like Mark Almond, Jethro Tull, Blues Image, Fleetwood Mac & Yen Years After.

Miss those Boulder days. I forgot how incredibly powerful Candy’s voice was and Tommy’s smooth licks to fill in those spaces. I also remember that unfortunate night she passed 😢. I was living in the south Boulder, Devil’s Thumb area at the time. Fond memories

somehow found first Zephyr album, with this line-up, in high school in the early '70s. played it alot - loved that band and wish I could have seen them. the transitions in power blues rock tunes with almost spiritual lyrics into soaring jazz sections with great guitar solos driven by killer bass still slay me. hard to believe lead singer and lead guitar player are gone. thank you DG for maintaining history of this fine band.

I used to see Zephyr in Denver at a SMALL 3.2 joint called The Circus. About the size of a small living room, in the basement of a pet store. I remember a great performance when they opened for Santana, might even be the one shown here in the second half. Saw them many times later at a bar on west colfax. Candy could play the harp like no other!!

I did an album (Woman In Leather) with John Faris in 1989, probably the best keyboardist and sax player I've ever heard. He died of pancreatic cancer around 2005. We came out of the Chase-Hamilton Band, a group of musicians who all grew up in the Northside section of Cincinnati. He wrote hundreds of songs and his death was a loss. One of his last recorded songs was on an album called Red Hounds, recorded in Cincinnati.

I have admit that's not fair to either janis nor Candy as they were their own stars & Candy never tried to be like Janis ,she never needed to . They both were stars ,Janis had the flash and soul. Candy was the same just she never needed to be flashy just the wildcat she was. Great artists that made Rock as fun as it was back then.
