Tommy Bolin played this at the age of 22If you think so, I think he was an extraordinary genius.

This was like a fav groove that Tommy carried on his sleeve... anytime just hangin out at Glen Holly, he would slow it down for me so i could keep up on the drums. I'm no Cobham or Mousson. But I love the funk jam with Greg Phillinganes, Jeff Beck, Tommy and Phil Polemeni..just doin my best to hang on and keep listening in time.
@jeanclaudejaycee34724 жыл бұрын
ron s hamilton wish I was there with you guys, Tommy and Jeff are my guitar heroes; I love many others too, but IMO nobody matches them in terms of balance, lightweight, delicacy and tempo; every solo is an arabesque carved by the 2 guys, and they are gifted with the ability of choosing the right note, frequently the most unexpected one, the right number of notes, the freshest progression that will carry the tune away.. Jeff is widely recognized as the best in town as for guitar playing, and deservedly so, but Tommy was probably the most underrated guitar player in rock history..

INCREDIBLE! I grew up north of Denver and was fortunate enough to see Zephyr in Boulder several times, (they were HUGE in Colorado!) and later Tommy solo as well. Actually, even got to see him at Ebbitt's field during the recording

The way Tommy builds a solo is just incredible. I've been a Tommy Bolin fan forever. I never heard a live version of Tommy playing this song. Thanks for posting.

@guitarplayer28466 жыл бұрын
This just might be better than Billy Cobham's version. Carmine Appice is no slouch at laying down a beat. The original is a "call and response" composition between Jan Hammer and Tommy. In this version, Tommy is playing both the "call" and the "response" while the other guitarist adds some color.

I like this version as much as I like Billy Cobham's. Carmine Appice reminds me of John Bonham. Tommy is driving this song entirely. - playing Jan Hammer's keyboard parts too. TB is playing both, the "call" and the "response" while he leaves room for the other guitarist to add some rhythmic color.
