He takes the corners with the throttle wide..and you can't help thinking you're gonna lose him - but he takes the corners, flips out, spins, powerslides, lands on his wheels and races on. Effortlessly. And all that still with that smile on his face.

you have GOT to see him in person to really appreciate him... best concerts I have EVER been to, and I have been to almost 100 in my lifetime including some of the great 70s rock bands... NONE of them put forth the sheer effort nor have the absolute talent of this ONE performer. How he can get so much music out of one guitar will both amaze and astound you. Bring friends when you go, they will love you forever. :-) PEACE from Western KY, where fingerstyle guitar was born! ;-)

If there was a hall of fame for guitarists, he should be there. Seriously. This guy has it all - Blues feel, Emotional moving songs, Speed, Skill, Electric ripping, you name it. I bet that if he wants he can play metal as well.
@shaynehmad16 жыл бұрын
What I mean is that Tommy is so good, he can play a lot of different styles, also very difficult one such as metal. And he doesn't play anything to "Impress" people. He plays because he enjoys it, and it's his job.

@benmcwilliam16 жыл бұрын
Yeah agreed there, he should definitely be in a hall of fame. He has an amazing talent of covering songs, and yet if you haven't heard the original first, you would swear he did it first because it sounds just as much (if not more) musically and logically correct.

Hard to find 'em in the states... they cost an arm and a leg here too! However, they have such a unique sound -- absolutely punchy and powerful -- saw Tommy in July in Nashville and came to the conclusion that it's definitely a combination of a masterful musician playing a world-class instrument that makes this kind of fantastic music! I have begun my "Maton Fund" and will have one before the year is up. :-)

the video they're talking about is the top one on related videos here. But it is the video under that is truly astonishing!! The 2,5 million (2,7 now)vid just seems a bit slow if you watch the Guitar boogie & Stevies blues, and then the 2,7 mill. But I understand people for watching the Guitar boogie (Not GB & SB) Though. Until GB & SB was posted, I thought the plain GB was the absolute maximum of a mans capabillities on a guitar! And boy was I wrong!!!

After about 40 years on this planet I discover Mr Tommy - "The Big John Holmes of Thumbs" Emmanuel!! (18+ Wiki John Holmes - lol) I am now struggling to cope with the emotional dilemma between accepting 'he is as close musically to any possible religious icon' and coping with the envy and inevitable fact I (you) will 'never' play what you just saw. I saw a post which simply said 'wow...just wow' which covers everything I think... :) Truly awesome! (Big John lives on in TE's thumb!)

few people know this, and some historians are beginning to discover that blues music was invented so that tommy emmanuel could play it. true story. mississippi delta musicians had to think of something to appease the guitar gods so they would send their son to save the 6-string world.

Really well played of the Tommy, as always! I wonder how this would've sounded on an electric, he really has nice lead-licks and since he plays them so clean it would probably have the nicest sustain on the electric. I do like that he does his thing though, he wouldn't be Tommy on an electric, and he still have lots of sustain for an acoustic.

@phillydwight I know right, it either makes you want to go and wood shed for a while, or just toss your guitar out the window at 90 miles an hour. I just don't know how these cats play so well. Guess they play all the time day and night. I just don't have that much drive as much as I love it.
