Being a Lancashire Lad I firmly believe this should be taught in school not only for the discipline and sporting aspect, but also due to the cultural relevance.

Fully agree, in America they are taught collegiate wrestling, it is such a shame we don't have that here.

Japanese Jiu Jitsu, sure. Largely because some Japanese fighters took part in Catch Wrestling matches in USA and Europe over a century ago. Martin Burns, Georg Hackenschmidt and later Ed Lewis said it was worth learning from the Japanese to add to the wrestling game. Similarly Jigoro Kano saw the benefits of wrestling, and adopted the Fireman's Carry into his Jiu Jitsu (Judo).

Max Respect for "Catch As Catch Can"...!!....The best grappling philosophy and system in the world. Good to see the art coming back to the forefront... Will, no doubt, likely revolutionise the world of MMA as time goes on, and Catch Wrestling "catches on", and takes it's rightful place in the grappling world once again. Likely to eclipse the Gracie systems, in the course of time, as the true history of the Gracies lowlife tactics and actions in relation to Catch Wrestling in the days gone by clearly indicate....

Lmao catch wrestling will never eclipse bjj and it’s because of catch wrestlers (such as yourself) try to segregate catch and jiu-jitsu. Grappling is grappling and keeping systems separate is ludacris, bjj practitioners have nothing against catch so I don’t know why idiots like you have such a red headed step child complex of being jealous of bjj’s fame

Catch guys had much longer than 6 minute matches. Conditioning was more important than power, and technique was more important than athleticism.

A lot of these places don't have heating, or cost a lot to heat. Plus it can get pretty cold up North in England. This was filmed back in January after all. Kris Iatskevich near Montreal, Quebec, also a cold environment.

Please note the Gracies have only been defeated 'on their own turf' by Fujiwara a Japanese Catch Wrestler trained by the late, great, Billy Robinson (died 2014) of Lancashire, UK. Catch wrestling first comprehensively documented in the UK in 1490 had been practiced for several thousand years.

Makes sense because Lancashire was Roman settlement and, probably, the Romans took some wresting techniques from Greeks. Several centuries after, the coal miners started to train with some of this wrestling knowledge Inherited by their predecessors.

@@charlesenglebretsen5130 i was researching this for a bit... as a bjj practitioner i also know that its from judo but.. there is a great great influence on Catch... research it your self... a lot of the submission locks moves are from catch and judo does not have this until its incorporated later on... Maeda was also learning catch wrestling. Its a big conspiracy but check out george gracie or jorge gracie. Apparantly george and carlos was also teaching helio catch wrestle.

Most catch guys are are freestyle, or greco guys who want to get back into wrestling after they have left school, hence most catch guys are your working class man who has nostalgia for wrestling in his younger days at least that's my experience.

Grappling is grappling the techniques in each art are all mostly the same with some tweeks. Catch is amazing but for the most part the top grapplers in the world are bjj world champs. Train both arts if you "refuse to buy into BJJ" your probably going to get strangled

i totally agree with you. i train in bjj but im fascinated by catch!!! So many moves that can be incorporated.. its like the 10th planet edgy braaa, he incorporated a lot of wrestling moves into his 10th planet style bjj and it works wonder... I honestly believe, greek/romans had it all down in wrestling way back around 450bc ish.. then over the centuries the style moved from region to region with humans transmigration over the continents and it incorporated it self in certain areas to be passed down. Some of the art got lost in certain places and on others it kept on getting passed down until we have the branches of different styles now under different rules of engagement/sports etc.. But originally it was one style which is wrestling and the art of hand to hand combat. Take an example for something recently.. an judoka sent by kano to russian with the russians eventually invented sambo, take maeda who was in the usa who did learn catch wrestling went to brazil and taught the gracies both catch and judo and they (gracies) created bjj. The history of catch im not sure but i know its from england and around the 1400s but for sure i came from the greek period. just my opinion
