I am 56 years old. When I was 8, I waited outside the baseball stadium as the Reds players walked to their bus. All of the players signed their autographs for me with the exception of one player, Pete Rose. He said, “Get outta my way, kid.” I put a hex on him, and the rest is history.

When I was a teenager (in the 1960s), sometimes I would wait outside the players' entrance and parking lot at Yankee Stadium and ask players for autographs. It wasn't so much about getting a signature, but more about meeting a big leaguer up close. Two players I distinctly remember were Billy Bryan and Al Worthington--they are still living and I thank them for their friendliness.

In the 70's Tommy had a commercial about kids asking for MLB autographs and how you should use good paper so the autograph can be a keepsake. We went to a Giants game against the Dodgers right around that time, so I grabbed a piece of foil used to wrap hot dogs and ran down toward the dugout where Tommy was standing. I held out the foil and yelled "Tommy, can I get an autograph". Tommy looked over at me then looked away, then did a double take and said "Are you crazy"? We busted up over that
