FIGHTER. He was never much of a boxer. That's how Ali beat him. Physical force alone was not the way. Morrison would definitely have lost if not for the age difference. But you're right. Morrison had an impressive punch, and Foreman never seems fazed by it. Then again Morrison was never in trouble either. If he'd had better training, he might have been a legit great.

I remember seeing this fight live all those years ago. I was surprised by how well Morrison moved. Clearly he and his corner knew not to make the mistake of standing in front of Big George and thinking Tommy would knock him out if he just landed one or two of his famous big left hooks. My goodness Big George had an incredible chin! Another thing I remember, which is not shown clearly in this highlights video, is that at one point late in the fight, George had Tommy stunned and Tommy was there for the taking and George didn’t pull the trigger. He was asked about that in the after-fight interview and said he deliberately didn’t knock Tommy out at that point because he saw him as a young man with a great future, or something like that. It was surprising. It made me worried a bit for Foreman because someone who bet on him and lost a pile of money might have been rather upset, and done something about it. There was a later fight for Foreman, against Shannon Briggs. I think it was his last fight. Foreman clearly won, but the judges gave the win to Briggs. Foreman was remarkably gracious, right after the fight, saying the judges had spoken and congratulating Briggs and telling him to be a good champion and make sure to avoid drugs and so on. And I remember Briggs, who looked very surprised at having been awarded the win, was responding with “yes sir, yes sir” and being very deferential to Foreman. Foreman was, and is, an amazing human being in many ways.

Big George. 81 fights 76 wins 68 knockouts his knockout rate is 1% lower than marcianos.
