I was never a huge Morrison fan but still I give him credit for being a big time puncher. I especially liked when Morrison, as Bentt was crying, walked over and gave him a pat on the back. That is sportsmanship and this army vet loves that. You are missed Mr. Morrison.

I hated to see Morrison lose, however, I was really happy to see Bentt win. I watched Bentt's pro debut and I his mentality wasn't right. He was closing his eyes when he punched. He looked really scared. After this upset Bentt looked terrible in losing to Herbie Hide. Morrison came out with no regard whatsoever for Bentt's punching power and paid the price.

Bentt still says to this day that Tommy was the hardest puncher he'd ever faced. He was scared the moment he felt Tommy's and at that moment thought that he had to knock him out to even survive the first round.

Not as much as Morrison was over confident after he rocked Bentt. After Bentt was wobled, Watch Morrison go in and start throwing combinations that there was no opening for. Its like he just walked up and was remembering numbers to throw without being in the right position and from a distance. Very sloppy on Morrison's part.

@@Poppin_Wabbits based on what? not this fight, he sparked out an overrated juice head, no problem. Fighting on the back foot does not mean you are scared, you ever heard of Muhammad Ali? Or Floyd? the Morrison can't box, like most of the Americans in the 90s, people just rated him because he beat old man George, who had the worst footwork and head movement in the history of the sport, any top 50 today would easily out point him. edit: I just saw this is 2 years ago, have you got glasses yet?

Bentt lost his WBO title 6 months later and suffered brain injuries in his 1st title defense. He then retired due to medical advice and went to acting school and became an actor. He was Sonny Listen and Will Smith's sparring partner in the movie Ali. Tommy Morrison never fought in that Arena again. Morrison went on to defeat Razor Ruddock two years later and captured the IBC title in that bout.

Tommy literally got Drunk at a Concert the Night right before this Fight & his face looked a little fat going into the fight. Tommy did not Train , he thought he was going to walk right through Michael Bentt & showoff for the Hometown Crowd in this "Tuneup Match". Foolish to think your just going to walk right through any heavyweight period. & "Tuneup matches" really only exist when you train for them , how is it a tuneup if you don't train for it , then you're not tuning nothing you're just knocking the rust off instead of tuning the skills you've been developing. He was Not Sharp here tonight , never even got a real chance to put his power on him and even when he got hurt he didn't cover up he just tried to throw bombs and get him out of there even faster so you can tell he didn't train for this one with those rookie mistakes but at the same time anybody can get cought off-guard by a good shot which is all it takes especially in the Heavyweight Division & its the ones you don't see that truly hurt you. The only way to take a punch is to get punched , train & get conditioned to taking punches which toughen's up the Skin etc. Also conditioning , once you get exhausted its way harder to stay on your feet. Once you really get dazed you already want to sit down without any help. So when you go in literally Hungover from the Night Before , it's a disaster just waiting to happen. Evander Holyfield said George Foreman hit him harder than Mike Tyson and everybody else , Tommy proved that when he trained he could go 12 rounds box effectively stick to strategy and take a punch because he took everything George Foreman had to throw at him that night he took some of Foreman's best punches but Tommy's Mom said that Tommy poured his heart soul and mind into Training for that Fight because he was terrified of George Foreman lol. He also withstood some serious bombs from other hard-punchers like when he got his jaw broke & broke his hands in the Joe Hipp fight yet still came back and knocked Joe Hipp out with a broken jaw and busted hands. I think Tommy had an amazing chin when he was determined & took his opponents seriously. When he trained Tommy was Sharp Fast Strong had a great chin and very decent defense , but when he didn't train this was the result. Tommy ultimately partied more than he trained but even still he only had 3 losses in the heavyweight division & over 50+ Wins which is pretty incredible given his lack of discipline according to his coaches. His coaches said if he had just shown more discipline he could've became the best boxer in the world which should be a cautionary tale for us all. He sure looked like 1 of the best in the 1st 3 rounds of the Mercer fight but lack of conditioning & steroid usage turned the tide quickly , steroids are meant for short bursts of energy not for longevity , Mercer said he knew that all he had to do was wait for Tommy to get tired and run out of gas so he went All In just making sure he stayed on his feet then seized the opportunity at the 1st chance. There are just so many factors involved in combat sports that the person who is more disciplined will usually always win the critical matches!

THIS FIGHT TOTALLY EXPOSED TOMMY MORRISON. He had a good left hook and hand speed but he also had a GLASS jaw. If you had the skills and durability to take his left hook (which was his only real weapon) Tommy was TOAST. Bentt was an average fighter, and he knocked out Tommy in one round. I saw a thousand black Tommy Morrison’s. But they could fight the good fighters either without knocked out. They fell by the wayside early. Tommy had complexion for the connection. White, blonde and supposedly related to John Wayne. But one problem, he wasn’t good enough to deal with the bad ass black fighters.

Ref did everything to help Morrison, slow count and all. But tommy showed up hungover and nonchalant. I don’t know if Bentt threw a lucky punch or not, but the way Morrison jumps on his opponents, either you keep up with him or you get knocked out. Trust me, this fight wasn’t making it out of the 1st round either way. Bentt later avoiding the bigger pay day for a Morrison rematch, flew off to London to nearly get killed against th virtually unknown Herbie Hide. At least he would’ve had a 50-50 chance in rematching Morrison.
