Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. A knockout puncher who took the Sports / Boxing world by storm for an all too brief moment in history. A joy to watch, as he devastated one opponent after the next with that tremendous left hook of his. From starring in Rocky 5, to holding the heavyweight title two times...This original documentary examines the rise, and then the very tragic fall of the Duke.

Some of those poor bastards in Tommy's highlight reel look like they were there to get KO'd, just judging by their appearance and reaction to his shots. They looked like they didn't belong in there. This aspect of boxing truly gives me a dark feeling, how some guys are absolutely pumbled just being used as a stepping stone to build somebody's undefeated record. Boxing doesn't allow defeats on a record like mma does.

Why don't you shout out how Jesus Christ creates a new life increasing masterpieces is Jesus Christ as the master that can put people pieces back in order. What happened in Tommy's life is everything Gods word teaches. will happen when you lose sight of the prize. when you take your eyes off of Jesus Christ. when you do your own sinfuln thing. your own strength to can't do it in your strength, you got to lean not on your own understanding but acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your steps. Like look at King David he was at the top he was a warrior he was doing great things because of God's wisdom and strength. He took his eyes off his calling and he looked out his window and got tempted by another's man's wife with let him to do evil as a result he got knocked down his kingdom was wrecked his own children turned on him his own beautiful daughter got raped you reap what you sow Jesus forgive us and have mercy I know from personal experience you don't want to disobey God people turned to God when you have time

The Duke had a killer left hook, I'll never forget the Razor Ruddock fight, one of my earliest memories of getting into boxing. The 1990s heavyweight scene was phenomenal, also amazes me still how many people over the years have said "Dude isn't that the guy from Rocky 5?"🤣

You know the reason people were scared of HIV via casual contact in the 80s ( I was a boy , I remember it) ? Because somebody named Dr Anthony Fauci went on prime time tv and said it was possible. He also went on to poison to death many people with toxic doses of AZT. Why do we let people like that continue to breath air? The drugs, drinks and girls. All these things repeating over and over. Then he became a drug addict. Dying from HIV. So learn from your own mistakes. Mercer was always tough as nails though. He said nobody hit him harder, and the body punches made him fart. All the common opponents Morrison had with Tyson have all said Morrison was a far harder puncher (Lewis, Tillis, Thomas, Williams, Ruddock). You could tell Lennox was terrified of getting hit with the left hook, the way his right glove was glued to his face. Some other opponents also said that Morrison hit them harder than Foreman did. He needed a coach/friend who could give him a reality check and put him back on track and keep him grounded while working on improving his techniques. Cus was that to Tyson, always keeping him grounded and laser focused imo and getting his fighter to show up and put in work every day even if you are the best in the world. Everyone needs someone like that in life who makes you wanna push but always pulling you back to reality and keeping things real.

I spent a day with Tommy Morrison, just a two months before he died. I was filming an interview, and the subject of the interview asked me to please hire Mr. Morrison to do "whatever" on set: hold the boom mike, get coffee, just basically be there and get paid. It was a philanthropic gesture, and I was happy to accommodate. Poor ole Tommy looked terrible; sickly, sallow, thin, frail, and sweaty. This man who I had idolized in my youth was now a shell of himself. Tommy barely talked all day, was too weak to hold the boom mike for more than a couple of minutes, and to be honest was surly, withdrawn and unappreciative. What a shame that this legendary, strong tough man would end his life in such a sad state. I mean no disrespect to Mr. Morrison, nor his friends and family- but this weird coincidence of hiring Tommy Morrison for a day happened to me, so thought I would share the story.

Your opinion is yours, but not shared by most of us. Morrison had a PED-physique, fattened his record on tomato cans, was lazy in the gym, and made a lot of money on his looks and ethnicity. @@hazza6723 Just have to correct you a little about HIV here. There's no recovery from it, but with modern medicine you can to a large extent prevent it from progressing to late stage hiv which is known as aids. Drinking also doesn't directly affect HIV, but I understand what you're saying. The drinking definitely doesn't help your immune system or how you look.. Tommy Morrison took medicine religiously in the beginning, but stopped taking it in the 00s and that's the problem. He lived without medicine for the last 10 years+ of his life claiming he never had HIV in the first place and that it was a setup. His HIV had reached aids from around 2010 ish where you could see opportunistic infections on his skin. As could be seen during his last interviews like the Fight Night champion interview in early 2011 etc.. Tommy Morrison reportedly tested positive for HIV as early as 1988, but managed to hide it until 1996 where he was forced to retire after a positive test. I wonder if it affected his boxing career. Generally you don't see many symptoms early on, but they say that within 5 years you will see the first signs of hiv. It's sad to see that he stopped taking the medicine and being in total denial. Died way too young and it could have been prevented. And I find it disgusting how he hid it from 88 to 96 and how he later gave fake blood tests to "prove" he was hiv negative to launch a boxing comeback. He even had a couple boxing matches in the late 00s. He could have infected his opponents due to boxing being a sport with open cuts etc. and he clearly was a very selfish man without much or any empathy.

One of the things that separated him from other heavyweights and is rarely talked about was his combinations. He put together 4 and 5 punch combinations all the time. Making it tough on an opponent especially since they weren't use to it. I would have liked to have seen what he could have done if he was totally dedicated. Although his chin still would have been a problem. His better conditioning could have kept him away from some of those hard punches. Seemed like a nice guy. True shame

that's the thing.. when you're dead tired, you get hit with shots you would otherwise not get hit with, and it also stings a lot more. This is what happens, when you start thinking you'll knock everyone out in 3-4 rounds. There's always someone out there, who can take a lot more than everyone else you'd ever faced. Mercer wasn't a good fighter by any stretch of the imagination, but he was extremely durable and tough.

Excuses, excuses. He was good, until he fought actual contenders. Merciless Ray exposed him, and it was all downhill from there. 😹😹😹😹

@@truthmatters142 What exactly did he expose? That he was getting hit so hard it made him fart and nearly shit himself? Morrison tired out, end of story. That's on him. Not on Mercer being better. Just better prepared, which ultimately matters. Just like Lewis could've gotten the beats from round 4-5 on, considering he was starting to tire too and dropping his right hand. But that's no good when you're not in shape.

@@truthmatters142 uh, yeah mercer knocked him silly. Again, his chin. But those first few rounds showed he was awesome. If mercer didn't have a chin of granite he would have been knocked out in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round. You can't simply push Morrison aside. He was a greater boxer. Especially as heavyweights go. But his partying and suspect chin is what stopped him from being a great.

As a guy that’s just two years older than Tommy I feel like in ways we grew up together. A tragic tale. So much lost potential.

How so? Tommy grew up boxing and living the good life. Your first job and still current one is at Burger King. Also you have to pay women for a good time.

@@user-pq6mr6op3p actually, when I wrote my comment I literally did not notice that you call yourself King Troll. That’s hilarious. OK, i’ll return the volley just once before departing. By the two comments that you have posted here I would have to say by this limited sampling do you are no king at all. You’re more of a peasant. judging by the elementary nature of your offering I judge you to be about 10 years old. Usually I like good and creative smack talk and banter but the key term is “good and creative“. You seem to lack both. continuing to smack you around would be unfair. it would be like beating my little girl at a bench press contest. For me to reply to any future posts would only serve to undermine the validity of what I just wrote.

A year older than me Tommy was around at a time when the heavyweights were numerous and great. Lewis, Tyson, holyfield, bowe, Bruno, tua, foreman, golota, botta, rahman, mccall, hide, Klitschko, moorer, byrd, tucker, Ruddock, mercer, cooper, they gave us great fights but what a truly tragic end. RIP 😔

It goes to show the evil side of greatness; like Tyson he was taken out by so much and he left us wondering, again like Tyuson, "What If?". Although, Mike would have beaten him soundly too fast for that left-hook, but he is still one of my favorite stories even though it ended in tragedy. Nature is "Undefeated"
