Yeah, without french flick you will never achieve that vaporizing backhand. So sad that such masters couldnt find time or coach who would push them to make that adjustment. Tommy is a great player dont get me wrong! But it's like Gasquet forehand, holding man back:)

@@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviour in his eastern backhand grip, look at the gap between the index finger and the middle finger...it helps the wrist's snap and a faster transition of the racket's head to add more top spin.

Isn't it natural to leave a gap between index and middle finger? Otherwise you would be gripping the racket too tense.
