Liverpool Street was my alternative London terminus to Kings Cross as a student going to and from Cambridge for both my first degree and my postgraduate studies. By then steam had just gone, diesel was the new rage, but both stations were still rather grubby looking and a long away from electrification and redevelopment. What a set of memories for Tommy. He is learning a mass of technical terms as a result of his spotting activities. Does his school use a "word book" system - or vocabulary as we had to call them back in my primary school - as his would surely look different to many of his classmates? Get some sleep in. Carry on extending your range of visits when you can.

I'm not sure about a word book system but his teacher is fully aware of his love for trains and his mass of knowledge about them. Last week at school, he won 'Star of the Week' and the reason given was "displaying his knowledge, especially about trains 😂 she shows the class his KZbin channel as well which is lovely

@@TommysTrainsandPlanes Please excuse me putting on my educationalist hat for a while as Jean Piaget ( 1896 - 1980 ) would have considered Tommy as already moving from stage 3 " concrete operational " ( logical thought, often described as collecting and grouping ) towards stage 4 " formal operational " ( scientific reasoning ). Train spotting never did me any harm - at least, I avoided falling off of platforms etc. - and I definitely ended up as a scientist, having originally wanting to be a train driver. And - I still collect things as you never lose the early stages.

It was a joy watching you. Tommy, have such a great time in London. All the trains, the tones you got, having fun in the fountain (well done, Daddy and Mammy for allowing), and sitting in the driver's cab! Heaps of cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

That's amazing Tommy got in the driver's cab, how did that happen? Bet that made his day! Glad you enjoyed Kings Cross, don't ever take him to Euston as that would suck the joy out of anyone...😭
@TommysTrainsandPlanesАй бұрын
The driver saw us spotting and how enthusiastic Tommy was so asked us if he wanted to see the cab. It's happened a couple of times now. He's very lucky 🙂 What is wrong with Euston? Too busy? We did consider going there
@TheMarkos1982Ай бұрын
@@TommysTrainsandPlanes that's great, I thought they'd be a bit too health and safety conscious for that! Euston in my experience is always very busy and can get really overcrowded at times and the facilities aren't great, I've only been as a passenger rather than watching trains so others may disagree. Kings Cross looks a nicer station.
@TommysTrainsandPlanesАй бұрын
@TheMarkos1982 the driver even let Tommy use the horn which I was surprised but really appreciated. I was surprised by how much space we had at Kings Cross. It was way quieter than I'd expected
@TheMarkos1982Ай бұрын
@@TommysTrainsandPlanes I think Euston is the busiest station in London. Good for the Pendolinos! I suppose the drivers recognise their own enthusiasm in Tommy which is great to see 👍
