Been riding bikes on the road now for about 30 years and I have had a few. I have owned a new XRx since last September and done about 12000k´s on it in Norway. A mix of commuting, long trips away and weeking twisties. It really is a capable bike. Light enough to be man-handled around in a single garage, comfortable for long trips (rode it for 9hrs continuously for one day with water stops only). I have been caught in darkness, hail and rain and hours from home and it becomes a friend that brings you safely back. It deals with commuting traffic easily and can be enjoyed on a faster blast through twisting mountain roads - keep the revs up in midrage (5-6K) and it perks up nicely - but not spectacularly. At speed in the really tight twisties, particularly with some bumps, the standard XRx front suspension starts to express its limits - but I suspect the XRt is better. I do find myself looking at other bikes that could be more sporty on a short 3-hour blast through the mountain roads. I´ve tested a few and narrowed it down; but as I answered the dealer when asked if I would trade the Tiger - ´Absolutely not, the Tiger is simply too good at what it does, any other bike would have to share garage space´. That just about sums up the Tiger; a paradox, not quite good enough but too good to give up :)

Been riding this bike for just over a year. 12 thousand Km in the Austrian Alps and Italian Dolomites. Can’t fault it really. I make multi camera videos of most of my trips and I have rented many other models around the world as part of that. The Tiger triple engine is the only one that doesn’t give me vibration problems with mounted cameras. Also has the best wind protection of any bike I’ve ridden. Can ride at any speed with visor open in a bubble of calm 😁👍

Had my Tiger 800 XRT for 3 years now and love it more now than when I first bought it. Living on Jersey (with a 40mph speed limit) it makes an ideal commuter and all year round machine. I've taken it on the continent every year visiting France, Belgium, Spain and Italy and it just eats miles. A 500 mile day can be done in comfort (with a few tweaks like handlebar extenders, air-seat and aftermarket screen - the old stock one was crap). I originally wanted a GS 1200 but didn't have the budget at the time. Now I think I actually made the right choice without realising it. Incidentally I traded in a V-Strom 650 when I originally bought it. Itself a very capable bike which I enjoyed, but the Tiger is a level above.
@TommyBarnezTV5 жыл бұрын
Haha awesome! Especially that you traded in a v strom like I might be doing if I get one! It's definitely very high up on my list of bikes I've enjoyed this year, was even a front runner for my next bike however I'm getting a bit excited about the ninja 1000sx out next year. Completely different bike but would work well for road trips, the v strom would then become the adventure bike. Tiger also launching a 900 next year however I've not really been taken with the styling from the pics I've seen

Nikos Papathanasiou Hi Nikos, during the summer months the engine fan does come on a lot and I sometimes notice the heat but I think that is quite accepted. on these triples. It is a lovely bike, particularly in the blue. Other worthy options BMWF750GS and KTM Adventure 790. Had a Triumph and dealers were excellent. This is an overlooked element in bike selection. Yamaha Tracer 900 might also be in the frame? However, my experience with dealers was poor. BMW let down by small screen but can be replaced and has best TFT of all these. BMW 850 is also great but tall and more an off road proposition, so probably not a good comparison. I looked at all theses bikes so it was interesting to see your review which was fair and open minded. Go buy one! You know you want to.
@TommyBarnezTV5 жыл бұрын
Haha I do, however I'm in that odd position where i bought the v strom new a little over a year ago and have put so many miles on it that the residual value probably isnt its actual value. So even though I do want a replacement it's just not economical yet. Theres a better argument for a second bike that's different that wont end up as high mileage. Was in the dealers this morning and they had one out that they had just sold with a customer collecting today. All kitted out with top box and panniers, looked great. Will probably be at least another year till I replace the strom as the daily. Keen to check out the ktm adventure and the tracer.

Since Tom has now 2 followers with same first name (username) I want to state that I agree to the other Christopher's opinion (esp. regarding the quality of Tom's review). :-) I testrode the Tiger 800XRT 2018 last year and found that it is probably the best bike in this class (that I rode). I also testrode the mentioned tracer900 which has an awesome engine and one gets a lot of Yamaha for the money... I would be also very interested to ride the (Tom's) v strom for comparison. To give an idea of just how good this motor cycle is, I part exchanged the daddy of all adventure bikes for a Tiger 800 XRT: the mighty BMW R1200 GS. For me, the BMW was just too unwieldy, and I had a couple of moments when I almost dropped it, and manoeuvring it was cumbersome. I've never had that with the Tiger 800. As you've discovered, the cruise control is excellent - you don't know you need it until you've tried it. And the exhaust is just fine - no need to swap it for anything else.

Hi, Just seen your vid, thanks for that. I have a 2019 Tiger 800 XRT and have been riding bikes for several decades, having owned numerous makes and types including two Triumphs (Bonnie variants). In my view the T800XRT is a superb bike for what it is, principally a tourer I'd say with easily enough power needed for that, even two up with luggage. Faults so far - none. I've tried the 1200 but it's just too heavy in my view though has the advantage of shaft drive and other features like an electric screen and quickshifter. One positive point for the T800 I think you failed to mention is the gearbox. This is silky smooth, typically Triumph, and way better than for example my previous ADV style bike, a BMW 1200 GS which I traded in for the Tiger.

@@TommyBarnezTV I don't commute so riding for me is purely for pleasure. If I did have to commute, I'd probably want something a little lighter and less bulky. For example a Honda CB500X which is also way cheaper than the T800XRT at about £6,000. www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/adventure/cb500x/specifications.html But then personally I'd also want the T800 for long distance trips and touring, so two bikes for two different kinds of riding is the ideal if you can manage it. @@mt-09josh77 😂 I used the wrong phrase 😂 basically a bit unsure about meeting people off the net, sure you're a lovely chap, but tend to just bump into people when I'm out. I go to bangers bike night from time to time
