I have the new 900 GT Pro, had the 800 before. By far a better bike, the lower torque is a god send. Loaded up it's great, much more grunt than the 800 at low end and instant pick up further up the revs. Has a bit more character than the 800 but isn't an issue, the toys and flickability reminds me of a street triple. So much better than the 800, I'm very happy with it.

Had a ride on a GT Pro 2020 recently while out on a group ride. I had recently bought an Africa Twin dct after enjoying the ride and changed from my then Xcx low Tiger. Living in Central Wales the Africa Twin has and will remain in my arsenal but I loved the ride so much on the 20 GT Pro I got myself a 21 GT Pro and it arrives next week. I will get a Fuel can ready to go to replace the stock can and will have to sort the suspension out when it arrives but at six ft seven tall this bike is so manouverable and planted at the same time with all the standard St up of the bike the 13000 price was for me exceptional value for money and will be used souly as the tour bike keeping the Africa Twin for the more adventure stuff. Totally agree with you a great bike.

@@TommyBarnezTV Never been a two's up rider because of my size really. Though I know many and am friends with many the situation to double up has never really arose in all the years I have been riding. I should say though I was quite shocked at how much better the 2020 Tiger was to the previous Triumph bike from 2018. The new bike arrives tomorrow and have been told by a few owners it is better again so we shall see. 👍

Nice. How do you find the move from the v twin? I'm still using my v strom 650 xt as a daily... up to 65k miles. Reason I don't have a huge push to change it is due to loving the engine and its such a cost effective option.

Time stamps ought to be a necessary feature of any review longer than ten minutes. Thanks! As for the bike, for me it’s one of three bikes in the running for an early 2021 purchase. In my situation, the thing that conspires against the Tiger is access to a trustworthy dealership. I neither want nor need a 21” front wheel so the V-Strom 1050 is in the running too (I’ve owned three new ‘Stroms since ‘09). All that said, if Honda would only produce a fully appointed “touring” Africa Twin sans 21” front wheel, I suspect that would be my first choice. Any advice on my thinking would be appreciated!

All great bikes! I've ridden them all though my v strom 1050 review isn't up yet. For me the tiger won on comfort and tech controls, the africa twin for fun and the v strom kinda between the two. I have a 650 strom which is my daily and due to zero problems in 36k miles I give it some extra points for likely reliability. However as you've had a few stroms it might be nice for something different. They are all very similar though so difficult to pick between. Why not throw a ktm 1290 super adventure r in the mix. I took one of those out, vid not up yet, which was pretty awesome. Stands out as more powerful than others in the mix and really was a great ride. I've seen really good deals turn up on KTMs too so might be able to get one for a bargain. I see less deals on triumphs.

Good video, thanks. Test rode one 6 weeks ago loved it, and immediately placed an order. I'm currently on a 15 year old Sprint 1050 I've had from new and need a new bike to rekindle a slightly waning interest. Love all the tech and although on paper it's a fair bit down on power from my current bike, it didn't feel it. Geared and tuned to put the available power where mere mortals need it in the real world I reckon. I plan to do lots of two up touring on it as well as solo blats. I was initially told there was an 8-9 month wait due to Covid etc 😮😭 but someone else's cancelled order became available 😆 Due in another week or two, GT Pro in red with engine bars and full luggage. Your video is helping keep the impatience at bay while I wait!

@@pimpthyride I don't have a Tiger currently, I have a Sprint 1050 sport tourer. It does have the same 1050 triple engine though. It's been a great bike and the engine is great. Mine is a little old and tired and lacks modern refinements such as ABS. I also prefer the more upright seating position of an adventure bike. So I can't really comment about the Tiger Sport 1050. I'm sure they are great bikes. I have seen in a few reviews that people find them a little top heavy when stationary or slow riding, which definitely isn't the case with the Tiger 900. The 900 GT is very light, flickable and has a very eager, grunty engine and is far "sportier" than I expected. I realise I am taking a bit of a risk as to whether it will be man enough for 2 people and luggage but I think it will. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Hi Tommy, today I've just bought that actual bike as an ex demo bike, considering the GT range is in short supply at Laguna and J.S Gedge It was for sale at £11,350 (plus another £350 for service/PDI and admin charge) and that includes the lower and upper engine bars (approx £500) and radiator guards (x2). I agree with you regarding the differences between this and the 800, I had a 2015 Tiger XRx for two years and the 900 GT is so much better (mind you, there is also a big difference in the showroom price between the two). I'm 5' 8"" with a 28in in-seem and with the seat in its low setting, I could flat foot each foot which I couldn't on the 800XRx where I coild only reach on tip toe. I would also mention the 900 has as standard, self cancelling indicators (option in setup), illuminated switch gear, auxiliary Fog Lights (with or without enginer bars) and a small but useful cubby box with a power socket for a phone etc under the rear seat, Cheers, Gordon

No it wasn't me, I live at Beltinge (Herne Bay) although I did live opposite Leeds Castle, I was going to buy the Laguna Ashford Demo bike (which was actually a couple of hundred less) but that was sold last Monday (21st), but James the saleman there, was able to have the Maidstone Demo shipped down, so I was out and about yesterday (19th) afternoon. I don't think I'll bother with any luggage this time, I've had luggage and top boxes on my previous bikes (Crossrunner, Tiger and Honda X-ADV), and have only used a top box twice, and never used the paniers. I'm retired and keep thinking I'm going to do a big tour someware (anywhere) but I don't think it's going to happen now (i'm 77), you never know though. Cheers, Gordon PS: when this lockdown bussiness is over you might find me having a coffee in the Castle car park

Good review only thing I would say is it might have been a idea to know how to set the cruise control before testing it 😃 looks like a great bike. Everyone seems to be only testing the GT Pro It would be good to compare the lower GT version and see how suspension manual settings work compared to the all singing dancing electronic version Big price difference for maybe a lot of stuff that you might not use very much.
@TommyBarnezTV
@TommyBarnezTV 3 жыл бұрын
Haha part of the test is how easy it is to figure out the cruise on the fly, makes for some interesting moments 😄 Unfortunately didn't have an option for lower spec for a test, Triumph might only provide the top ends of ranges for test rides etc so that may be why there are just gt pros reviewed online. Will keep an eye out for lower spec versions of bikes for reviews though as I tend to only really think about the higher specs being a bit blinded to other options. Thanks for the tip!

I had a Tiger 800XR, which was great. I traded that in for a BMW R1250GS to go long distance touring. It’s a beautiful, well balanced machine, but heavy, so I bought a 2020 Triumph Speed Twin for fun. It certainly brings a big smile to my face, but the suspension is not so good and I would have to remove the silencers to adjust the rear shocks to take a pillion. It looks gorgeous, but if I were to add luggage I’d spoil that. I’m thinking that the Tiger 900 GT Pro might distill my two bikes into one that was light and flickable, easy to adapt for a pillion and looked good with luggage.

Tiger 900 could be a good option. I rode the 1250 recently (not filmed) and had a great time on it. Heavy but with the weight down low I didnt really notice it. Have a ride of the tiger and would be good to know how you find it compares.

@@TommyBarnezTV I tested a Tiger 900 GT Pro yesterday, courtesy of Destination Triumph, Christchurch. Thanks, Guys for that! I really liked it, except for a couple of things: the new crankshaft caused an annoying vibration through my hands, especially at motorway speeds. This would make a long ride quite tiring. The electronics, such as heated grips and seats reset when you stop the bike, which is annoying if you take a short break. I didn’t ride it for long enough to test what else resets itself, but if it’s a cold day and you decide you want the grips and seat to be warm, you’re hardly likely to want the bike to argue with your decision! The TFT on my GS integrates with the GPS, which is really useful. The Tiger links to your phone, but only gives turn by turn directions - no map. I would miss that. The GS has semi-active suspension, so I was surprised when riding the Tiger to find the front forks dive when braking. I expected to have to give it more revs than the GS and was happy with the power, even though its about 35hp less. The gearbox is superb and the quickshifter is actually better than the one on the GS. It is noticeably lighter as well, which makes manual handling a joy. I also noted how much narrower it is and more nimble, so filtering is much easier. My conclusion was that I will stick with the GS until I’m to old and doddery to manage it, when there may be a new iteration of the Tiger, which irons out some of my perceived shortcomings. As far as my Speed Twin is concerned, I would like to try a Street Triple for comparison, as this might be a bit better for local use. If there is one perfect bike that does it all, I’ve yet to find it, but it’s fun looking!

@@davidbrann3581 awesome thanks for feedback. Yeah I agree with those points, especially the width when compared with the GS. I ride a v strom daily and lots of filtering and that's my one concern about the GS. Overall I have a preference for the GS on the ride I had recently over the tiger 900 but will be riding the new 1200 soon which will be good to compare to. In terms of street triple it's an absolute beast. One of the best bikes I've ridden though pretty terrible at motorway speeds, in the bends is amazing though and sounds superb. I have a couple of vids on it, most recent has an aftermarket exhaust which sounds wonderful.

@@davidbrann3581 As a Street Triple 765 R owner who's ridden a Thruxton 1200 R, Scramble 1200, and Tiger 1200. I think you'll miss the torque that Street Triple R lacks. It sort of comes alive at 6k but 8k is really where the power is. For day to day commuting it's a tad too much bike for regular road speeds and the rear sets are far more aggressive that models I compared it too. Amazing bike but more of a weekend racer. I commute 45 minutes to work on it and it does well. On the highway the Street Triple R can be buzzy too on the throttle tube 5000-6000rpms which can put your hand to sleep. Left grip doesn't buzzy oddly.

I think it's a bit underpowered for a modern 900 triple. 95 odd hp is well down against the competition. I think it should be around 110 hp or slightly more. It also sounds too much like a twin and not like the lovely wail a triple engine produces. Too pricey too. Get the the excellent 1050 Tiger Sport instead.

You’d buy this bike if you were going to do a bit of off road like gravel roads & tracks as well as mainly bitumin, the wheels being 19” front and 17” rear you can get all sorts of tyres to suit what surface you are riding on. It also has an off/road mode for those gravel roads & tracks, so you would only buy the 1050 Tiger if you only rode bitumin or paved surfaces 100% of the time.

I had a go of the Tiger GT 900, it was pretty good . ( I'm not a major adventure bike fan ) . Now I love the triple engine in the Street Triple and Speed Triple. So much so I just swapped a Street Triple (that I did like) in for a Speed Triple (bucket load more torque). To me the different firing order made this engine feel like a "lumpy" triple . I didn't like it. If they wanted a twin in their adventure bike why not just use their existing twin engines ? (maybe without the retro "air" cooling fins ). I like twins, I have a Speed Twin too. I really don't see the point of making a "lumpy" triple. Although I seem to be alone on this opinion !

Yeah I wonder why they didn't just a twin engine rather than working on the firing order. @@TommyBarnezTV I can understand V twins. Speed Twin does 270 degree firing order, to mimic a V twin. It's lovely. I'm yet to ride a "real" v twin. Parallel Twins with 180 degree firing can sound a bit "tractor like" (I've had a go on one of those) I like a triple when it's a 120 degree triple. i.e. not the one in the Tiger 900 !

So did you actually trade in your Strom for this 900? Asking because I am considering this too. My experience is that the VStrom’s refinement and smoothness are excellent. No vibrations anywhere even after 10000 miles. Not on the pegs, seat or the bars. By contrast I have heard many remark that the Tiger 900s are buzzy. That is quite annoying to me. Also heat management on the Strom is excellent, while it is an issue with the Tigers is what I have heard.

I didnt :) still have the v strom - it's at 65,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. I recently bought a second bike - triumph speed triple rs 1050 which I'm loving. Won't get rid of the v strom though, it's such good value and has proven itself to be bullet proof.

@@TommyBarnezTV that speaks volumes. Just yesterday I showed my Strom to a prospective buyer and during the conversation, I offered him such an impossible price knowing full well that no used buyer would accept that price. Although a part of me wants to upgrade, another part of me just doesn’t feel that there is anything else in the market that is up to snuff as the Strom is. It really is a bulletproof machine.

Tried this bike myself. Liked it, but didn't love it. I had my heart set on the bike as well before I test rode it. Just seemed to be lacking a little in power. I also found the cruise control a bit finicky to work. Obviously, I was doing something wrong but I don't know what. I feel I need it for a day or so to really decide.

@redline rossi Its a grower. A short test ride doesn't do it justice (my own experience). Cruise control is easy - double tap cruise button, once to turn it on, second to set it. Turn it off by just rolling forward the throttle on closed position, easy.

Great review! I have a 2018 Vstrom DL650 and have considered trading in for the Tiger 900 GT PRO. Just test the GT Pro but it was a 7 mi road/hwy test drive, really assess and compare against my vstrom...and remain undecided. In no way does the Vstrom compete with what you get with the GT PRO Heated grips, cruise, etc, etc), but I notice a different feel in the handlebars, a slight vibe and/or "vibration - if you will. I really like how flickable, light and powerful in the higher gears. Take-off seemed a bit slow than the Vstrom. All in all, this is a tough decision and just curious what your thoughts are now - given that this review was in 2020... Any feedback from other Vstrom owners who may have considered same and/or actually did go with the Tiger...? Thank you! R/Roni

So... my vstrom 650 just passed 50k miles, same as yours 2018. I dont think I'd ever trade it in to be honest, will keep it as a second bike when I get something else. The something else I'm considering getting is actually now a r1250gs or gsa second hand. I took one for a test ride recently and found it seriously awesome. I felt the boxer engine had quite a good amount of character, more so than the tiger. I've not ridden the new tiger 1200 yet. They're all aweosme bikes, no doubt about that. Personally v strom wins hands down on value, but considering how good I found the gs I feel it might be the winner, for me anyway.

@@TommyBarnezTV Impressive mileage! Actually looked at the 1250GS, hard to find frankly, but did manage to sit on a GSA w/a massive tank. Price point hits a bit further north than I'd like - but i agree, they are impressive bikes. For me - the only negative on my Vstrom - is that I wish I had a bit of extra umph especially when at hwy speeds. It's hard to find any fault with a bullet proof motor and the fact that a Vstrom just keeps going. I may do another test drive on the Tiger, a 7 miles ride is just too short. Thanks for the feedback!

Excellent video. I sorely wish I lived in such a beautiful place. I have long been a fan of the Tiger 800 and this looks like a huge improvement. I recently bought a Ducati Scambler and commute for 40 minutes through central Paris and outskirts and the Ducati seems as good as it can get for the purposes but...I am tempted to switch to the Tiger 900 pro just because it is looks far more practical and for motorway riding and poor weather. Have you tried it in dense city traffic? I spend half the time filtering and I'm concerned that the extra weight and height would be a handicap. Any views?

Difficult. I'll tell you what I'll give my opinion of which wins in some categories where there is a noticeable difference. Technology - tiger Exhaust note (with aftermarket) - vstrom Engine engagement riding - vstrom Desirability - tiger Looks - tiger Comfrot - tiger I think the v twin of the suzuki is where it wins. The tiger wins everything else. Between the two I'd personally go with the tiger however a bit part of that would be just because I've done over 50k miles on the 650 v strom so would fancy something a bit different. The v strom Engine is awesome.

It is a question I have heard asked a few times in our circle of riders. I know three 2020 GT Pro owners and none have had issues of any kind which is what persuaded me to get a 2021model. Believe this or not my first job for a well known motorcycle brand besides being tea boy sweeper upper skivvy was to have an hour every day picking holes on other brands of motorcycles reviews online. I had a conscious and was laid off when I started asking awkward questions on pricing grey imports and quality of servicing. I then got to work for a different brand where I completed my apprenticeship and went on to further my involvement at a much higher level through that particular brand of bike. No need to surprise you and say I still by this brand of motorcycle today because I trust them. I was disgusted at what I found on my entry into the world of bikes and like say Yamaha at Moto gp level with valvegate recently sometimes you need to read between the lines to find the source and not believe everything you see in the media.

Hi, I test rode thuis Tiger 900 and the sales person told me about this firing sequence making it looks like a bi-cylinder low end then a 4 cylinders at higher rev’s. It sounds to me a bit like marketing story that I did not really experienced... Nevertheless, that’s a great motorbike 👍

Researching an ADV purchase, I'm torn between this and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. My concern with 1290 is seat height (too tall) and weight. The KTM is 238kg with a full tank and no cargo. The Tiger 900 GT Pro is 212kg wet. I'm not sure how significant the weight difference is, but do you think the 900 has enough power for two-up riding and including full cargo? I also like that they offer "low" options for shorter riders. That's just plainly smart.
@TommyBarnezTV
@TommyBarnezTV 4 жыл бұрын
I've not ridden the 1290 Super advneture but have tried the 1290R and GT from last year and I don't think the difference will be great. The KTM has serious buckets of power. Fully loaded 2 up the KTM will be great. I think the Tiger 900 would be ok 2up fully loaded but I was unable to try that on my test so cant say for certain. The KTM has significantly more power though. The tiger felt quite a bit lighter than the ktm from memory though the ktm didn't feel like a heavy bike. Both have their weight quite low down. Have a ride on the them and see what you think. If you can get a slightly longer test ride to assess with the bike loaded up.

Which Vstrom model were you comparing it to?
@TommyBarnezTV
@TommyBarnezTV 3 жыл бұрын
2017 650xt - the comparison was more due to comparing the 800xrt to it the year before. A fairer comparison would be with the new 1050. This wins on tech and comfort, though the v twin is marginally more engaging. Between the 800xrt and the 650xt I found the 800xrt was much better on tech and comfort but the 800s engine was quite a dull to ride compared to the v twin. The firing order of the 900 this year give the engine a lot more character.
