I find this scene really interesting for Tommy's character. When he first showed up at the prison, he was expecting "Hannibal Lector". Confident, scary, unremorseful Dream (I think most of us were expecting that). He even brought TNT, probably with plans to do the same thing Dream's character did to him in Exile. I don't completely blame Tommy. He got some PTSD from that experience. I even cheered when Tommy did it during the finale. But when he saw how sad and pathetic Dream was, he couldn't help but feel empathy for Dream. After all he was in a similar situation in exile. And (from what I saw at least) Tommy doesn't enjoy seeing others miserable. He'll be violent and mean to cover his pride, but he doesn't take pleasure in seeing others in serious pain. Tommy did try to justify his recent feelings for revenge by bring up Dream's past aggressions towards him and Tubbo, trying to get back into the mindset of hating Dream. But the moment Dream apologized (which he has never done before, at least not to Tommy), you can see Tommy at a loss for words. Most of the books Tommy gave Dream to write were jokes but one of them was titled "Why". I don't know if Dream deserves to be forgiven. This might be all part of Dream's plan to get on his good side or he's being completely serious. We're gonna have to wait and see. But from what I saw from Tommy's reaction, I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy ends up forgiving him, maybe not completely but enough. Again I don't know if Dream's character deserves forgiveness or if he's even telling the truth. I mean he has going to kill Tubbo in front of Tommy and lock him up in the same cell. And from what we saw during Tommy's exile, he DEFINITELY wouldn't feel bad about keeping him there. But completely losing EVERYTHING (items, house, pets, friends, power) with nothing to show for it, MIGHT have made him reflect on his actions. I don't know. That's the fun part of not seeing through Dream's perspective, IT'S ALL A MYSTERY! He could be lying, he could not. We're as clueless as Tommy at this point! Idk, I just like thinking about this stuff :P I like character/story analysis. And with so many characters in this series, it's fun to think about :3 I can't wait to see where this goes!!

Dream will definitely have some character development, but there's pretty high odds that he'll be broken out (likely by Technoblade, as many suspect). If Dream gets to dodge the consequences like that, I doubt he'll transform into something benevolent. Maybe a little less hellbent on stealing everything with sentimental value, but still rogue and dangerous.

Yeah I definitely agree with the replies on this, but I think some people are overlooking the reason for his actions, as in Tommy came onto his server and caused chaos, and eventually he just snapped and went insane. Of course there’s no solid evidence to prove this; he could just genuinely be a psychotic sociopath, but there’s definitely potential for some kind of character development/backstory to him. Of course this doesn’t excuse his actions, but it’s interesting to think about

Ok but here’s my thoughts Watching this live I was thinking “goodness, dream’s already losing it a day in?” And then I realized dream has literally no emotional attachment to anything or anyone outside, he’d only been there a day, and the only thing he’s missing is just the ability to control everything. Dream isn’t the type to get depresso when dragged down, he’s the type to hit back with all his force. He knows pretty much only tommy’ll be visiting. He knows he can appeal to emotions. I have a feeling he might eventually take advantage of sympathy and get tommy to get him out. Lord knows what happens then.
