I am fairly certain that they give buffs to 'whoever the devs see as on the back foot', so when the Russians are attacking, they're 'on the back foot' because objectively they're weaker than All Of Europe, you'd get the same buffs if you played russia and avoided going Pure OTL for the military reforms. I think that the one who wins while the other member is on the back foot sets them into a 'loss state' without content.

Not really the bonuses you get from your focus tree are enough to win you the war, by default you start with more milis so you just have to build upon that. It also depends on the path you chose. Grisha streamed the mod played as LDPR russia ( hardcore right wing russia basically, and chose the hardliner path for zhirinovsky) basically russia under the black hundreds. He wiped the flor with an entire player filled eu. Like their military industry at the start of the war was nothing. The only area where the eu had an edge was number of jet fighrers but you can counter that by building interceptors.

They are sending lambs to the slaughter in a multi-million dollar box. But that box can still do some damage before it goes boom. Plus you add all the landmines etc. At the start of the war, there were roughly 3,300 operational tanks at Russian disposal, and there have been visually confirmed over 2,000 destroyed Russian tanks. It's getting closer to 3,000 destroyed tanks every day. Thats not a great survival rate. You are implying that there has never been any military blunders/wasteful spending and thinking. WITH THE RUSSIAN MILITATY AT THAT. Just because they are still building tanks to send them to die does not mean that they are not practically useless.

As to the "European War" Dev really needs to work on that part a bit. A lot of the other game mechanics look great though, especially the economic system. Also no shot Thailand joins the Chinese faction. They'd jump at a shot at taking Cambodia, Pattani (in West Malaysia) and parts of Burma/Laos. A faction flip of Vietnam would be viable as well, plus the Chinese landing is silly.
