I have reached out to Allen and am on the wait list I dream of owning one of these would probably even carry it in public outside use as a training/teaching tool they appear well constructed. I've been studying steyers WW2 era additions to the subject alongside french La canne stuff the group is pushing into we've all come to respect the fighting stick they blend well into daily life, retain a passive presence within otherwise restrictive settings.

Mr. Moore: I just watched your latest video ,covering your new Faircane. I too have been fascinated by the Faircane, for several decades actually. About 5 years ago , I convinced Mr. Brock , at Plowshare Forge , to build me a replica, using Lynn Thompson’s 19992 article from Fighting Knives Magazine as a basis, along with some additional photos and descriptions from articles on the internet. Mr. Brock did an excellent job and my short Faircane. Is one of the jewels of my cane collection. If you Google images of the Faircane , you will see my 22.5” replica under the “Survivalists Boards “ logo. There are several pictures, including one with a yellow tape measure, which I note for your ID of my swagger stick Faircane. Having now seen your longer version, I’ve decided that I must have one, albeit with less flex , a more tip tapered end ( but not quite pointed ) to give it more purchase in snow and ice, the thong located just forward of the metal end piece and the whole cane about 34.5”long, so I can add a pull off rubber tip for walking on hard surfaces. I tried to find an internet contact for Allen Karlsson, your maker, without success. Would you be so kind as to as to give supply me with Mr. Karlsson’s contact information. Many thanx in advance: Acropolis5@ nj.rr.com ( USA ). P.S. I very much enjoyed your video and techniques. And I’ve now subscribed to your Channel. I too have studied Fairbairn’s books,as cited by you. Your techniques are quite similar to many of those cane techniques demonstrated by Mike Janich, in his cane video.

Nice to see this covered here. Not a commonly coved part of the syllabus. I remember being taught a small drill that encompassed the strikes from AIF and Defendu. That was developed by Bill Pilkington, an assistant to Fairbairn. Who if my memory serves me right it the chap demonstrating the pet arms sequence in Rex Applegate's book.

Serge Mol describes a similar steel cored walking stick in his "classical weaponry of Japan" as the yagyuzue. Also described are yumiorezue made from broken japanese bows and used in a similar way as a sjambok. The book does go into some depth about how to make your own if you are interested. This book also has a very nice section on knuckledusters and handpacks. The Knuckleduster designs are far more effective than the classical western design which tend to break your fingers if you don't do a lot of practice with them. From personal experience the cold steel sjamboks are cheap and hurt like an absolute b*tch but lack the versatility of the Faircane shown here.

The yagyuzue is different from the yumiorezue. The latter is a broken bow used as a rigid whip,the former was a specific steel core walking cane disguised as wooden and lacquered.

Mr Moore: Acropolis5 here again, still chasing after your Faircane Maker. I appreciate that you forwarded my contact info to him , about a month ago, but I’ve never heard from him? Is it possible for you to urge him on a bit or give me his contact info , so I don’t have to bother you anymore? By the way, I’m loving your Channel and slowly working my way thru and your video library. I also have a SS Boker Smatchet and a version of the later “Fairsword”, custom built by Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works, in the State of Arkansas , USA. They list it as the MMHW Special’Boot Knife’, It’s made of’ 5160’ high carbon steel, 1/4 “ thick., skull crusher pommel., with a black Kyldex sheath. This beast is double edged, longer, at 18” overall and slimmer than the , with a 10 3/4” blade, 2 5/8” wide, but a similar leaf shaped blade. I’ll get you a photo ASAP. It is a great display piece.

Hopefully , I’ll hear from Mr. Karlsson soon and we can commence a “build”. If you care to, please send me a proper email address and I will forward to you a copy of Lynn Thompson’s 1992, Fighting Knives article on the Faircane. I corresponded, via email, with Mr Thompson , after my Faircane was delivered, sending him photos and specifications. . He replied that it appeared to be a very good reproduction. I don’t know whether you are aware that Mr. Thompson is a bit of Fairbairn biographer, writing many articles and even a book on Fairbairn. The book is entitled, “ The World’s First SWAT Team”. It details Fairbairn’s creation, with Eric Sykes, of the Riot Squad of the Shanghai International Settlement Police Force. It’s a great read. Best: Acropolis5
