Could never understand why Marsh ran the way he did. Never medalled in a major championship it obviously didnt work for him but he never changed tactics.

The consensus was that he psychologically preferred to pass people rather than being overtaken himself, as it gave him greater confidence but he often overdid it by saying back too far and giving himself too much to do..

Only one African in the field. These days you'd be lucky finding anything but Africans in the field :)

Julius Korir, Commonwealth Champion who went on to win the steeplechase in LA a year later. Great technician. Something you don't see with many of the Africans.
