I had a male cat like that, years ago. He looked exactly like this one, and was called "Tiger." He would be outside somewhere, walking on the high walls, or whatever. When I shouted the word "pakkie", which means sachet or packet of food in my language, he would run like Hussain Bolt to come and get it. He loved it!

@Daathiel My cat almost did the same thing to me once. Actually one time, I think he literally pounced at the laser itself. He still allows me to play with him with it though (esp. on days when he's not outside much). Thankfully, he doesn't wander too far off and always comes back where we can actually see him. But some cats are goofballs tbh. I've even had my cat pounce-attack my leg for no reason. Or sometimes he'll do that when he's upset for doing something he's not supposed to be doing. I think cats understand us more than we realize but it's if they choose to listen and how our tones are too.

I live in Mexico. I have a cat that reminds me of Tommy. He is totally feral, doesn't use a litter box, he just goes outside somewhere. Bernie is a proficient hunter and kills anything that moves. Try waking up at 3am to a live bird in your bed, flapping around under the covers, what a mess. He will eat an entire bird, bones, beak and feathers, pretty gross but I love him all the same.

What a great cat and friend! My wife and I owned a cat that freaked people out because she acted like your Tommy, you could call her name (Katie) and she would come trotting up from wherever she was and sit down like "Well!?" She could also tap the refrigerator door with a paw to let you know she was hungry and would tap a window to let you know she wanted to sit on the sill and look out (she hated the outside). We sure do miss her. Thanks for sharing Tommy.

My 14 year old Tom cat says CLEARLY "HELLO" in the morning, at feed time or when entering the room. After many years he has learned this is his communications with Dad. TO him it means, dad is here to feed me, or pet me. or give me treats. When asked" where is Minnie ?" (our adopted miniature female kitten-Minnie) He CLEARLY says, "I don't know." He only started this in the last four years with me talking to him all the time. . Smart enough to know this is a communication with Dad. Rest of the time it is jibberish talk.

I kept waiting for you to say a word that wasn't his name. My cats, too, react to their names plus a handful of other words, notably "fish." They also find lost objects that fell on the floor if I ask them to. Cats are cool (when they want to be).

It's been scientifically demonstrated that cats recognize the names we give them -- they just mostly don't care unless there's something they want (like food) at stake. We've got a three month old kitten who already knows her name -- she'll look at me if I call her -- but she only comes when called if she hears a can being opened (smart kitty)...

I trained my cats to come when called. Made life so much easier. The tone of voice was also a factor. They knew when I was being a little sh#t. “Bear, bear, bear ,bear, BEAR!” then he finally looks I wave and go “HI!” The look I would get was fantastic! Then it’s “Bear, come here” and bang there he is. I came back from a car trip once, opened the door, one of the cats started going the wrong way, I said “Georgie! No. This way”. She turned around and proceeded me to the door. A watching neighbour was like “wtf!” Having them trained actually allowed them a lot of freedom. It was great all around.

Funny thing was my cat loved the water from tuna, shrimp, or canned fish but wouldn't eat the tuna. Frozen shrimp was one of her favorite human food. When I cooked them she stood by me and meowed constantly until I cooked, peeled and broke up 2 or 3 of the large ones for her. (I buy raw, unpeeled, uncooked extra large frozen ones for shrimp cocktail). Didn't matter how hungry I was she got hers before I could eat because she drove me crazy with her impatience.

Absolutely! Tommy reminds me of my Ginger who's been gone a long time. No matter where she was in the house, she'd come flying to me within seconds. One day, she was walking across a big room, and every time I said her name, she froze in place for a couple seconds. I love it when they think they're hiding & their tail is still sticking out!! Ha, ha, ha!! Sometimes I go & very gently sort of pull a couple of tiny tugs near the end of their tail -- just to let them know I very well know where they are!!! Gets a big indignant meow from them & for sure a big laugh from me!! And my cats hv the same reaction to the word "hungry." I just say it & no matter where they are in the room, or what they're doing, in a teeny weeny split second those 2 little heads just swivel right around to look at me, in unison!! They GET IT!!!!! They also react to "eat" & "food" -- and "treat" too ofc, that's a real biggie as well, which brings them out of the woodwork in an instant, from whatever room they're in, or from a deep sleep, especially if I also shake the treat bag!! OMG!! Just like asking a kid if they want some candy!! GEEZ, DO YOU EVEN NEED TO ASK, MOM???

My kitty, BC (RIP) was a dog trapped in a cat's body: He came when he was called by name, he played fetch (a lot) and he always was at the door to greet me whenever I had been out, even to get the newspaper or some take out. HI TOMMY.. coolest of tails to be out ha ha aha... you are so sweet My Kitty Bart heard you and now wants to meet you. Keep posting your news and we will become fur fruends .. . we are in Minnesota and got snow ,. I rescued Bart four years ago below my balcony herb. Someone had kicked him in the head and rear.. and I ran him downtown Northfield Minnesota here and the vet helped me to save him.... Tommy he is a Watch Cat and watches over me in the window at night.. keeping us all safe here and also worries bout the random outside cats here in the winter. . We throw food out at two in the morning secretly into the bush below... as no one here to help us livetrap and take them to a humane shelter.
