17:15 Angel, I really, REALLY wish the anime had covered why that old dude was so livid at Rembrandt. It is actually pretty heinous. That "witch doctor" had pretty real reasons, but those two teen girls did NOT deserve to get wrapped up in a curse. The manga does a pretty good job of showing the flashback, but I am still bewildered that the anime left this so ambiguous.

They give you Rembrandts backstory in the Ln and Manga, to summarize: got a job in the company, became well regarded there, became friends and associates with the owner, the witch doctor worked for the owners family and was the love interest of the owners daughter, Rembrandt had the owner killed and framed the guy, then played the good guy and defended him. The witch doctor thought the daughter, who now was the Head of the company, would be happier with Rembrandt and left. Rembrandt married the daughter and then had her killed too and made it look as a bandits attack. The guy found out about this but got caught, then, managed to escape. Rembrandt brought her now wife (who he had always been in love with), married her and had kids. Now in the present the witch doctor, who used to be just a normal guy while working in the company, curses his family for revenge. Also, the butler is a retired assassin who Rembrandt used to kill everyone who was in his way. From the outside everyone sees Rembrandt as a tragic good business man who lost a good business partner and wife, and now gets his second wife and daughters cursed. Tomoe learns the truth with her mind reading but decides to not tell Makoto to avoid complicating his relationship with Rembrandt since he is a good contact for their interests.

@@eizy1010 That's pretty fair it was a very close call for me but I'm a sucker for goth looks and the blend between trad Japanese with goth flair just sunk it. Though Tomoe isn't a slouch with the laid back devotion thing, it's very endearing.
