I’ve been learning guitar for about a year now, and I think this is about the most helpful strumming tutorial I’ve seen so far. Most of them start at step 3, because basic rhythms can be boring and repetitive, but sometimes you have to take a step back and cover those fundamentals.

I like how you can go from teaching advanced jazz to the basics of acoustic strumming. Even simple lessons like this are good for advanced players as well, basics help slow me down and focus on technique and timing which reminds me I have to renew my subscription to your music wisdom.

I play so much acoustic with thumb over or Hendrix style that I feel like it’s causing arthritis. But it makes my hand ✋ and forearm so strong 💪 put on a backing track close your eyes and just try and find where the sound is fumbling around until one day you just start hitting the right ones. Even if until it sounds like crap. I didn’t start doing this until my 10k hour mark. But after this technique amazing playing came out of me. Cheers Tomo

I have to find my capo. My new Dean acoustic is slightly difficult to play near the nut but I have nerve issues (weakness) in my left arm from a neck injury. My capos always vanish!

You can use a slightly light gauge strings. Orangewood guitars are set up so great! So easy to play!
@baneverything55802 жыл бұрын
@@TomoFujitaMusic It came with D`Adarrio mediums I believe. Their mediums are very large. I bought some lighter strings but haven`t changed them yet. I had to quit playing for awhile until I could get my nerve pain under control so I`m using the heavy strings to toughen my fingers.

Hi Timo sir, actually this thing i'm unable to get over that whenever i play with any sort of backing track why i start repeating the same licks again and again ? i've seen many player like clapton, srv,bb king, john mayer etc big player like when they improvise or play any solo they don't repeat licks or phrases they just go or comes up all the time with new licks. How did they do this ? please guide me a lil bit on that, i want to get rid from this thing cuz i'm upset becuase of it.

Please imitate vocal melody Don't learn licks from tabs Learn more triads Learn chord progression Simply if you don't get improve your guitar playing, normally the process is wrong way.

Hello Mr. Fujita. First of all, thanks for the lesson. Secondly, I know you mostly play using a pick but do you have any tips for playing multiple notes on the same string at a fast speed while playing fingerstyle? I play chord/melody on an acoustic and recently encountered this issue where for songs with a highly rhythmic melody (for artists like Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons) it’s hard for me to keep hitting the same string at a fast enough speed… Any tips from you would be very helpful. Thanks!

You're very welcome! I do also use finger picking too! Play it super slow, pick a little easier songs. Thank you! Maybe next video!
@TomoFujitaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Before performance, you need that finger picking technique.
@yashkapoor02 жыл бұрын
@@TomoFujitaMusic Yes I suppose nothing beats good old slow practice. Just a quick question about the exact technique though: I’ve seen 3 different ways of picking the same string quickly; can you please point out which one you would recommend/use? 1. Just use the same finger and practice till it’s fast enough 2. Alternating index and middle finger 3. Alternating index finger and thumb Thanks for answering my questions!

I lost 30 picks in two weeks in the yard where I sat in a chair practicing under a tree. I was so obsessed with trying to find at least one of them that I dug up some dirt around the chair and sifted it. Nothing! I`ve seen picks fly away from my hand and vanish before hitting the floor. One white nylon pick followed my friend and I for years. We could be playing miles from the last place we saw it and find it laying on the bumper of a truck....sitting on a BBQ pit...on a table....on the ground, the floor, or inside the acoustic guitar. The last time we saw it we were outside playing around a fire and found it on the ground. I was half drunk and dropped it in the fire...TWICE...and the first time it jumped out. The second time it burned up. We never saw it again. What`s going on with guitar picks? Any strange pick stories?
@TomoFujitaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! That's why I use white solo picks. I leave about 5-6 picks on the desk. I loose pick easily so I kept playing... I will pick up my picks off the floor later.

@@TomoFujitaMusic I could never get the hang of strumming with very thick picks on acoustic. A friend of mine who`s one of the best guitarists I`ve ever met besides Stevie Ray Vaughan and Darrell Abbott of Pantera told me there should be no difference and I should be able to use any pick but I play a lot of very fast dynamic songs and when I`m not plugged in I tend to break strings. I`m gonna try to use a thick pick the way you did it. I do like the tone change of using one. When I started out I was much better just finger picking but everybody insisted that I had to use a pick. After my PA was stolen I had to to get volume. But I`m a singing drummer and although I`ve played guitar for over 20 years starting at age 35 I never felt like I could call myself a guitar player. I learned basic chords very sloppily (just so I could sing all the songs I did in bands I was in) and taught myself. One person showed me a B chord in 2000 because I couldn`t find it. That`s about it.
