I really love Togami's play style. he's always going all-out, never holding back or playing passively. of course this implies a quite amount of errors, but when he enters superman-mode it's a real pleasure to watch.

4 years later after the 2020 semifinal, the same scenario, the same outcome. I never seen Harimoto so calm, just watch his eyes at 3-3 & 8-10. A lot of forehand chokes from Togami from good positions and without pressure, looks like his rubber lost it's grip.

His form has been incredible lately and it looks like he is peaking in time for the Olympics. At his peak, he is capable of beating the Chinese top players which he has already done before. A year ago he beat Wang chuqin and FZD in a team event competition.

@Law_of_Cycles while i agree he was in really bad shape throughout a large part of 2023, but i think he's coming back up. Beat ovtcharov during top 16, made the finals of doha contender and only barely lost to timo boll and now he wins the Japan championships. Sure, he underperformed in the doha star contender, but that was against sora matsushima. Probably the biggest rising star at the moment along with felix lebrun. I'm defenitely not saying he's back in his best form yet. But i think even in his current form he CAN beat anyone in the world (except WCQ). Same way Liang jingkun, lin gaoyuan, or hugo calderano can

Answering that Togami’s speed and power are still behind Harimoto’s reflect and control. We can learn that Table Tennis is not all about power and speed. Harimoto showed good control and reflect were able to prevent the damage. Harimoto’s coach was brilliant, look he point on his head with a finger. Use muscle and brain in the same time 😉

Epic battle. Togami is the hardest worker. Harimoto has the best control of the ball, but ultimately it costs Harimoto on the world stage. Togami needs variation, then he’ll be world top 10 I think.

I think you can say that Harimoto plays a little bit smarter. But he is at the same time playing very defensively! That's not how one plays when one wants to win! He really needs to play more offensively and attack more because he has the ability to attack but he chooses not to unless he is cornered and pushed. He still has a lot to improve I think.

It's because he can't match his opponent's power and speed, but still finds ways to win..there's nothing he can do to gain the control of the point and assert aggression each point over this guy. Obviously sometimes if the point is set up correctly, but Harimoto is really like a counterpuncher, not all-out aggression.

Togami has one tactic for return of serves. A backhand flick. I try that and it goes ok! You don't have to worry about the spin. Just get into position and flick. Need a very fast wrist, and don't worry if you miss a few, as you can't get them all.
