Late comment I know. Yes you can export the 360 image and edit in DR, but it's much easier to with the insta desktop software and then import the edited footage into DR. Annoyingly the cool ai effects are only available on the phone app, and that doesn't allow the same quality export as the desktop. Insta needs to give us the tools on the desktop, especially as my pc is far more powerful than my phone, it would save me a lot of time waiting to see if the ai edit is worth keeping....

Thank you that was a very useful and informative video. I have two questions : 1) you said that cropping the image to have it as little distorted as possible shrinks it from 6k to about 1080 but then when you exported from the insta360 software you did in 4k with a cropped image... Is that because the image wasn't that cropped ? 2) I want to buy an insta360 but I'm also considering buying a stabilizer for the DSLR that I already have and that shoots 1080. Do you think buying a stabilizer is pointless if i get the insta360 ? Thanks

First, great video! I have multiple Insta 360 cameras and the bottom line is exactly as you stated.... 1080p stinks. No matter how hard I try to integrate the footage into my 4K videos (by upscaling during post) the footage from the 360 camera always looks like crap. Unfortunately, until this camera can shoot 8k (4k from the front cam and 4k from the rear cam) there is no use for it as a cinematic film camera. Its also been over 3 years now since I bought the first One R and the video quality has remained the same., By the time they update it to 8k for the 360 module, 4k will have been replaced by all 8K video. Personally, I wish that Insta 360 would develop a 360 camera that can produce the 8k and I don't care if its a larger. They do have pro 360 cams but they are huge and not practical for any adventurous conditions. There needs to be a camera in between. The One RS 1-inch we were hoping to be that camera, but it falls short with the resolution again. Insta 360 is targeting consumers and not pros. There is more money in these cameras for vloggers. This is also evident in the fact that after 3 years the desktop Studio software doesn't have 70% of the mobile app's editing features. and no pro is going to edit there videos on a damn phone!

@codyhanthorn42702 жыл бұрын
I wondered about this. If the actual image you grab and use might be 1080, but from the tech side it calls out 120mbs. If it was just a 1080 that would be good, but I wonder if that's including a full 180 side of recording making the final video watered down pretty far. They need to spell out that better.
@codyhanthorn42702 жыл бұрын
If it's a 16:9 crop from 6k down to 1080 would the 120mbps also be cropped down by the same percentage per 180 degree side? 6K pixels/ 1080 pixels (6144*3160)/1920*1080)=9.36 times. So 120/9.36 is 12.82mbps?? Someone check my math, of how the spec is called out. That bit rate would be terrible for a final 16:9 for any commercial work.

Nice summary- thank you. I’m really considering getting this camera and you really helped. What’s still confusing me is the max export resolution. Earlier you mentioned you could export 16:9 framing in 1080, and then you manually set the export value to 4k. So it shoots at 6k but export at half or quarter of that?
@PepesTowingService2 жыл бұрын
Not the author of this video, but both are correct. If you use the phone app, it only lets you export at 1080, or 1440 if you use the story function. The computer app here also for some reason exports at 1080 as a preset, but you can override that and export as 4k as he did in this video. So you can export in 4k, you just have to manually set the resolution to it and you can only do it on a computer.
