Fastest serve @ 00:50, backhand serve @ 5:35, regular pendulum @ 14:07. This concludes the serving series. Hope you got something useful out of it. Now it's Q&A time!!

I'll try and explain the Ovtcharov serve. He used to keep his head low to the table as a child when preparing to serve. As he grew taller he continued to keep his head low, which meant that he has had to squat lower and lower as his height increased. This is the explanation from the man himself.

I watched each of these serve video more than 5 times and find it helps me score more during after work games. Also thank you for decoding Ma Long. I’m actually surprised that Ma Long doesn’t use Reverse pendulum serve like Zhang Jike, maybe it’s because Zhang Jike serve is just obvious enough so it’s the same as a backhand serve. Also there’s a more advance trick to combine a normal pendulum serve with a hook, which used largely by Jun Mizutani.
@canicetang88376 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the server. If you have a pretty strong upper body and can do a strong standard reverse serve if Ortcharov by rotating his body like a reverse discus throw, then that alone might be enough. However, if you prefer to be more upright and don't need the exaggerated motion as much. Then you will definitely need to compensate the momentum by the whipping motion of your wrist and forearm to give you exactly the same motion. As a server, you can use the same serve with variety of motion, direction, speed and spins to your advantage. The possibilities can be endless.

Ovtcharov and low head. I thought it was evident for YOU. First, once one acquires a SUCCESSFUL habit in a stressful situation, then PSYCHOLOGICALLY (we are animals after all) one is "condemned" to execute some silly/ridiculous things, even if one understands the its usefulness. For example, I find ridiculous coming to the net to polish the table with one's hand before servicing. Secondly, his and similar tricks (for example throwing a ball very high for service) distracts / irritates a bit your opponents which is quite useful. Thanks for your video!

Thank you - I really learned a lot from your tutorials. They are very useful tips. I'm a smasher, just curios whether one can smash an under-spin return ball that is relatively high (upper arm to shoulder height). I hit several of them and they went into the net. The experienced players said my timing of hitting the ball was wrong - what is the right timing?
@tomorrowtabletennisnon-pro10016 жыл бұрын
YES you can hit it hard so the spin would have very little influence. It's best to hit at its peak or just a bit before it.

Thanks for posting. I am not trying to be critical, but trying to understand. I watched another video that said a serve has to be thrown straight up. Many of your serves seem to be thrown up and move toward your body. Are those legal serves? Thanks. I'm going to go try one of your things now.
@whatevereyewant6 жыл бұрын
I’d imagine Dima stands so low partly to visualize where he wants to contact the ball and the other part is actuall contact the ball at the lowest point so it’s not only loaded with spin but difficult to touch safely which is why he gets a decent percentage of 3rd balls back that he can kill.
@whatevereyewant6 жыл бұрын
Actually contacting*

I think you're right.

HUUUM good point. But he has to stand up first then contact the ball so..
@whatevereyewant6 жыл бұрын
He does come back up but still goes back down considerably before making contact so maybe the low thing is more visualization but he definitely contacts the ball low. If you google his name with tomahawk serve after there’s a 2013 vid that shows a good side angle.

I'm an all-out attacker, so I like to receive aggressively, with a topspin or a flick whenever possible or even impossible) and my bat is offensive of course. What would you recommend me to do to improve my skills of receiving? I keep hitting some of sidespin serves away from the table, exactly to the sides they spin, even though I try to adjust the angle. And that happens even worse when I receive with a short push.
@tomorrowtabletennisnon-pro10016 жыл бұрын
I'll be making a serve receive series soon. STAY tuned.

Part 2 shows a few practice services of long fast reverse pendulum, but doesn't explain how to do it. With reverse pendulum, it's easy to keep the serve short but hard to make it long because it is a brush motion.

Hey. Would you recommend to put three fingers on the handle when serving backspin or the pendulum serve? I noticed lately that I get more spin if some fingers on the handle (as you mentioned for power), then they act as a lever and give me better and more stable acceleration of the bat.

Can you explain why players like Samsonov stand in the center and serve? What is the advantage of standing in the center vs standing in the backhand corner and serving
@tomorrowtabletennisnon-pro10016 жыл бұрын
UMM he's very even on both forehand and backhand. It's easier for you to attack using forehand when standing in the corner, and more deceptive.
@DragonWarrior9766 жыл бұрын
Tomorrow Table Tennis [Non-profit] You mean covering the backhand corner also with forehand? So players who are even on backhand and forehand stand more in the center and players who are forehand dominant stand in backhand corner while serving. But then look at Dima. He is having an amazing backhand but he serves the pendulum serve from the backhand corner and not from the center. So it means that there has to be some other reason.
