Nah, it's just that people try to call anything a meme these days. Back then, "Arrow to the Knee" died really quickly. Joking about how badly it was overused kinda became its own running joke, which outlasted the original by a long time. The ones that were run into the ground were called "forced memes".

Even if some of these were cringe and what not, most them can be well thought out and have an amazing story to them.
