Bravo Tomoya once again! This should have been conception of the double bass from the very beginning. I recommend to every bassist to try this approach - yes it is completely different, but it is worth in every way.

Thank you! I definitely felt a huge difference moving from 41.5" to 40", especially for 5ths tuning. On a 40" I could finally play with my preferred fingering system, which is 'each finger = 1 half step', more similar to a cello fingering system. On a 40" bass everything feels closer and easier to play!

Thank you! The string length for this instrument is 40" with a full 3/4 size body. You can tune it to either 5ths or 4ths. The ideal string length for 5ths would probably be shorter, around 38", to make it easier for the left hand.

@moyaAomori @UCq9i9QAZQjHpQUPA2bZjJow I love the 5Bass:kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn7Wc3mXdpKhm6c and because it's tuned an Octave below the 5 String Cello (2 Octaves below the 5 String Violin/Viola) it's perfect for all kinds of Music. I could get a 5Bass by taking a 5 String Double Bass, and string it up with Pirastro Obligato Fifths Tuned Double Bass Strings (including a High E Solo String). Basso Continuo parts from the Baroque era, the Early Classical music era, and even the Music of today sound ideal in Fifths tuning. I think the Bass Section of all Orchestras should use a 5Bass cause 1) the intervals between the Strings is the same as the rest of the String Section, 2) there's more resonance and brightness, 3) the intonation will be more in tune, 4) it's a very functional instrument that you can actually arrange music for. When playing Cello and Double Bass pieces on a 5Bass it'll sound an Octave lower than written, but when playing Violin and Viola pieces it'll sound 2 Octaves lower than written. Why not play Paganini's 1'st Violin Concerto on the 5Bass? Bottesini would've loved to arrange Paganini's Violin Concerto for the 5Bass since he was the Paganini of Double Bass. A friend of mine named Joel Quarrington is a Bassist, and he tunes his Double Bass in Fifths just like you. The 5Bass should be available at Guitar Stores someday, also in electric form cause I thought "Why not play Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major on the 5Bass". Did you know Red Mitchell revived Fifths tuning on a Double Bass?
@RockStarOscarStern6344 жыл бұрын
@UCq9i9QAZQjHpQUPA2bZjJow Fifths tuning on a Double Bass made a comeback and it's not just Bassists that want to play a Fifths tuned Double Bass, Cellists might wanna try it as their novelty instrument. You could also play Paganini's 1'st Violin Concerto in D Major (sounding 2 Octaves lower than written especially when playing the Tutti Passages) on the 5Bass cause Bottesini was the Paganini of Bass Violin and if Bottesini had a 5Bass (5 String Double Bass tuned in Fifths) he would've loved to arrange Paganini's Violin works for the Double Bass w/o having to write it down on paper cause it would sound 2 Octaves lower than written.

I call it a 5 String Bass-Baritone Violin cause it has a Bass-Baritone Voice. Some of my friends my Mom sang with in Choir were Bass-Baritones which are basically deep Baritones that have an extended range going into the Bass register, and they fill the gaps up between the Bass and Baritone Voices.
@RockStarOscarStern6344 жыл бұрын
The 5Bass is tuned an Octave below the 5 String Cello which Bach wrote Music for it (6'th Suite), and all of Bach's Violin pieces sound super good on the 5 String Cello and even the 5Bass. Why not bow Mark Brymer's arrangement of The Greatest Show on the 5 String Cello and 5Bass. I wanted a New Violin Family Orchestra version of The Greatest Show arranged by Mark Brymer w/ Optional Choir Vocals but that's not available yet so do "The Greatest Show arranged by Mark Brymer, transcribed for 5 String Violin/5 String Cello/5Bass by Tomoya Aomori.

Wow; stunning! Articulation and intonation a pure pleasure in the listening. I've read that the dbl. bass was supposed to have been tuned in 5ths all along, á la the rest of the violin family; it's just that string technology at the time was too limited. Would love to hear more on the low C and G courses, how they resonate.

Nasal and piercing is kinda too negative for a Timbre that's uniquely lyrical to the 6 String Double Bass's High C String (in Solo Tuning that becomes a High D), a better description would be full-throated like the highest register of a Male Singer.

Jdi ih In alot of orchestration and arrangement manuals they say the High C String on a 6 String Double Bass is Nasal and piercing, that's a bit too negative of a description for a Timbre that's uniquely lyricle, a better description for the High C String (in Solo tuning High D) would be full throated like the upper register of a Bass-Baritone Singer.
