SAE30 oil for the clippers. The wd40 will wear them out faster
@rotorhead50065 күн бұрын
WD40 is solvent-based so any lubrication effect will be short-lived. Better using chain oil or a silicon / PTFE spray. That said, I believe WD have brought out a proper lubricating spray now, rather than penetrating fluid... at least, The Millenial Farmer had some on one of his videos! 😃

Might be worth getting on an old shipping container, cutting one side out and adding doors then putting pallet racks in? Relatively easy storage for grain/seed that would be rodent and cow proof?
@hiscifi29865 күн бұрын
I see you have a full width access to your clamp. We just make a ten foot wide vehicle ramp, and then pile the silage vertical on the side. That way we get much more into the clamp, and save a lot of waste. it is moderately safe up to 5 ft high, and I have driven over the edge once or twice..! One small clamp that I worked on, had half a wall at the front, and it held lots of silage.

@graememckay99725 күн бұрын
For a bloke that has invested so much in labour and time saving around the farm you still like a "tidy up". Do you not have a little space for some pallet racking to store stuff? You could stick some racking between that feed bin and maize clamp. 3 shelves high probably 2 pallets wide both sides would give 12 slots for pallets of seeds or green gravel bags.

Tom - get some of them really thick plastic road plates / ground mats for the edges of the clamp... Pop them down first, then bales on top. Might help squeeze the edges in better... Either that or chuck them gravel bags down there if you cant get bales tight to the sides. Might just gain that extra little bit of less waste.

There is NO excuse for not having an animal proof store! The value of the spoiled seed is a quarter the cost of a nice secure shipping container!
@johnwarwick41055 күн бұрын
How would you use a shipping container, as you have to climb over everything to get to the stuff further back. You need to be able to store pallet loads.
@peterchandler85344 күн бұрын
@johnwarwick4105 So fitting 2 or 3 full-size doors in the side of a 20-footer is not an option to allow for telehandler access! Or a standard 10 footer will take 8 pallets !
@johnwarwick41054 күн бұрын
@ experience in farming and industry tells me how long the side doors will stay rodent proof or functional when pulling pallets in and out. But yes the theory sounds good. I actually saw a perfect shipping container a few weeks back it had a whole side that opened up, 4 doors hinged on each other very clever design would be perfect for something like this but good luck in finding another one like it. As for a ten footer good luck getting pallets in 2 wide then getting too them safely when needed.

Tom , moving things around is definitely not cost effective both with time and damages . just a suggestion but really valuable items like seeds , tools etc would it not be worth buying or hiring an old shipping container . yes it would take slightly more time to load when delivered but defiantly would be more cost effective and you have the room . Sometimes it pays to take a step back and calculate just exactly how much money wastage is costing and take steps to fix it, especially now there are more working on the farm. Probably I should shut up but I'm old school like your dad and hate wastage. Maize looks brilliant ! Great video as always 👍
