If the implement is not perfectlyh level / parallel to the tractor, always hook the lowest side first. If the other side is too high, you can lift the arms a bit.

You need to get the root tap out for the thistles, chopping them encourages germination of the seeds. Causing more Thistles. If the thistles are just scattered and not "ringed" then just go round with a spade and dig them out.

Hi, Ben! If you can get hold of an original Owner's Manual, I think you'll find that those 'unscheduled roadside excursions' are described on Page 26 as 'Picnic Opportunities'. Huge pork pie with three eggs in it; giant bag of crisps; tin of shandy; flask of sweet, milky tea; packet of chocolate Hobnobs; flat offside rear tyre; leaking radiator; bent track-rod end; broken clutch cable... And lots and lots of rain. Yay! ;-)

The problem with over management of grazing is getting cows back in calf if they become thin. I understand too high levels of protein is not good but grazing too tight has its drawbacks as well. A cow with good cover will be healthy and milk better and go back in calf quickly. The only thing I would say about a topper is keep away from weeds unless they are not in flower.
@jimr9762
@jimr9762 4 жыл бұрын
The secret is to give them less area at a time graze hard and move them to fresh ground regularly so they are only pushed to eat the less desirable bits for very short periods. It's not easy to get it right but topping is an admission you've got it wrong.

Tom when your greasing the machine you should grease the Hardi Splicer on the PTO shaft. Im a agri mechanic and fixing shafts is one of my specialitys. Just a little tip to help prolong the life of your shaft. Also another tip is to put some thick oil (back end oil or engine oil) a few squirts of the oil can between the inner and outer tubing to help the shaft slide in and out.

Holy smokes,Tom!! I have learned massive amounts from you and your dad. Good reminder to properly grease equipment when they sit outside. How do you reseed your pastures? Your love affair with the Case is so funny. Yes, there is a build up of CO2 in muscles when they do not get to move on pasture as well as good gut health from the physical movement. Your dad is right!!! I see yellow-green grass in between and green grass where the cows poo. Do you ever run a rake over the paddock? Or, does the spiking and rolling break that up and distribute it. Doesn't rotating the sheep and keeping the cows in in the winter keep the fields cleaner. My wellies have pink and tan horses on them. Love the shorts and wellie look. We used to do Daisey Dukes and wellies in the summer time here in Florida, USA. (Ask your dad about Daisey Dukes if you don't know.) Thank you again. Really enjoy your vids. Georgia

I’ve always been told that you should grease any machine that you use 1 a day. Here in England where I am we go over it with a chain Harrow which breaks and spreads all the cow muck then we roll them.

@@henrysessionsfarming7448 Thank you. The ground is so bumpy here. We throw tires on the chain harrows to keep them from bouncing around. I am learning your vocabulary. I have to listen carefully. When Tom went to Ireland, I couldn't understand at all. We have allot of puddles too. Coastal plain. I am learning so much from listening and seeing the vids. On the map, I am in central Florida very close to the coast. Will look up Fylde. New word for me. Oh it goes with coast--Fylde Coast. Does this mean a type of soil like clay, sand... or is it a region along the northwest coast.

Quick comment to help maybe! When you said the topper is missing a line, try adjusting the check chains or stabiliser bars on the side of the link arms, put them both over to the left so the topper is riding to one side slightly, closer to the tractor... hope that makes sense 👍🏽

Tom regarding spraying, why is it you don't like spraying the thistles? Chemicals in the ground being passed onto life stock I'm guessing. An option you could try is spot spraying with vinegar, apple cider vinegar appears to be strongest and act faster. The ideal time to apply is a hot sunny day so the weed absorbs the vinegar. I'm giving away my secrets but if it helps I hope you could try it. Still raining in Ireland 😳

Hmm... I was born and raised down south (Kingston/ Surrey) and am now in the north of England (West Yorkshire), and in both places, 'nacked' means 'knackered' - i.e. 'broken'. So in my book, if you've nacked a job, you've screwed it up. If you've 'cracked' it, however, you've finished/ succeeded. Whatever. Just get it done and hit the pub. ;-)
